Brewed by:
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

Style: Munich Helles Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A good beer takes its time. The long storage makes our yellow bright lager, “Original”, a flavourful beer enjoyed with fine poured, white foam. With a mild hoppy note and its pleasant fresh spicy taste, it goes very well with salads, poultry, stews or with a hearty snack. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance - Poured half a glass and it instantly foamed to the top.. about 3 inches thick of creamy white foam. The beer is a clear yellow color.

Smell - Somewhat sweet with hints of corn, honey, bread, hay, and malts.

Taste - Bitter and malty.. Also sweet, I taste faint hints of honey. Citrus, bread, grass, and a spice I can't put my tongue on.

Mouthfeel - Somewhat thick, creamy body with high carbonation.

Overall - This is a pretty refreshing brew.

Pours a pale pale straw colour, slightly hazy body. Head was there then I blinked and it was gone. No lace.

Aromas of malt, bready/dough.

Taste is sweet malt driven with little bitterness to back-up. Doughy breads persist. A very dry finish takes over as the bottle progresses.

Mouthfeel is alright - moderate carbonation

Overall, it's OK, but not up to the other brews of the brewery.

Appearance: A very pale golden that is very clear on top is a solid inch worth of head.

Aroma: Lemon zest, faint yeasty esters. A tiny bit of bready sweetness in the tail end.

Taste: Good carbonation on the palate. Traces of lemon zest, wisps of yeasty breadiness. Slight biscuity texture in the middle. This has a nice dry finish.

Notes: Such a solid German lager and certainly very drinkable. Cheers.

.5liter bottle into a .5 liter Weihenstephan glass.

Pours a clear light gold with a 2 finger white head. Excellent lacing.

Smells of honey and bready malt. Also some lemon thrown in there as well.

Taste is crackery and bready with an almost cereal-like flavor. It is pretty sweet with some hop bitterness becoming more pronounced toward the finish. A pretty balanced beer. Mouthfeel is medium and has an almost gritty quality.

Overall This is a very good beer and one of the tops in the style. I don't drink this near as often as I should.
