In our golden-yellow crystal-clear wheat beer the fresh citrus flavour harmonises very well with spicy banana notes. The fine sparkling gives it a tangy and animated appearance. Throughout summer and winter, it’s a prickling experience. It goes well with fish, seafood, white meat or it can be enjoyed as an aperitif. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Appearance Light yellow in color and clear with strong carbonation and a beautiful head that foamed up nicely and had some good retention.
Smell Big, fluffy wheat characterizes this nose. The yeast and light fruiting make up the typical Kristal Weizen aroma.
Taste Wonderful example of the style. The yeast and light fruits, predominantly bananas and peach, make up the delicate yet distinctive taste.
Mouthful This also was very authentic. IMO, the mouthfeel of a weizen is the most important aspect of the style and that which is most often missed. Here though it is terrific. The body is light yet fluffy in the cheeks. The carbonation dances around the tongue.
Drinkability Great for in between meals, especially on this Christmas Day. I will definitely buy again.
Update I love a good Kristal Weizen and this is the only good one that Ive had in the US. I decided to re-rate it with a 2004 vintage since my original review was in 2003.
This nose is just huge. I dont remember it being this big. Its gorgeous, really, and heavy on the yeast which is how I like it. Its the same at the taste. This is a solid 4.5 overall and by far my favorite example of the style that Ive had in the US. Nothing else that Ive sample even comes close.

Got 5 half liter bottles. 5,4%abv. A filetered version of the Hefe Weissbier. Poured at 7 degrees celcius in a Weihenstephan glass.
First time I have a Kristall Weissbier.
Looks: poors straw-yellow golden clear, 3 finger white head, medium-low retention, small bubble carbonation, medium-low. Goes sort of flat/still pretty soon
Smell: the traditional Weihenstephaner some, mainly biscuity, some sense of smoked salami, bit of unripe banana, bit of the spices (clove it is always said)
Taste: the taste struggles to keep up with the smell, Not much sweetness, bitterness dominating, Some pilsener notes there.
Mouthfeel: lacks body, watery with a bit unpleasant bitter finish.
I do miss the creaminess, the full body and the flavours of the full yeasted Naturtrub version.
I think it is a crime to filter a Hefe Weissen.
Not a bad beer, but not for me. Was nice to try.

Clear and golden with high rise bubbles and foamy head.
Great lace action.
Aroma of banana, fruits and spice.
The taste was of banana tones, fruity and sweet with a good balance.
The feel was light and smooth with medium carbonation.
This was so easy to drink.

Part of a Weihenstephaner five-beer Variety Pack I received for Christmas.
Pours a translucent, straw yellow color. A faint whiteish head on the initial pour.
Aromas of sweet banana.
A very tasty brew. An easy drinking wheat beer with banana as the predominant flavor.
Medium carbonation, medium consistancy.
Drinking German or international beers is something I don't tend to drink. Since this was a gift, I'll work my way through the Variety Pack with an open mind. This is a style I wouldn't normal gravitate towards but it was very tasty. Cheers!

Pours neat and clear, light gold. Immediate notes of yeast, banana bread. Slight phenols to follow nose with mild pepper in after taste. Remarkably complex given the style. Interesting.

7/9/23 Poured from bottle purchased at Save on Beer north of Pittsburgh.
Beautiful clear deep gold. Little to no head or lacing.
Aromas are definite banana clove and lilac. (The lilac according to Leah.... Something floral anyways). Slight malt as well.
Immediate carbonation on the tongue. Banana bread not sweet not sweet though. Picking up some walnut tones. Picking up some metallic background along with some bitterness of citrus.
Overall a nice drinkable Kristalweissen!
