Brewed by:
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

Style: Kristalweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
In our golden-yellow crystal-clear wheat beer the fresh citrus flavour harmonises very well with spicy banana notes. The fine sparkling gives it a tangy and animated appearance. Throughout summer and winter, it’s a prickling experience. It goes well with fish, seafood, white meat or it can be enjoyed as an aperitif. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

500ml bottle

A - Served in weizen glass. Clear, golden body. Pillowy, giant white head.

S - I get banana.

T - Much like the aroma I get banana.

M - Moderate

D - It is a tasty beer but just seems lacking compared to a hefeweizen. But it is not a hefeweizen so I think it is spot on for the style. I wouldn't hesitate to have it again.

500mL bottle (batch code 8170) poured into a Rastel Hefeweizen glass.

Appearance: Clear golden yellow. Pours a huge white airy head which dies down to a 1/4" thick white foam which is very persistent. Strands of lacing here and there.

Smell: Cloves, sweet spiciness, and just a tiny hint of bubblegum in there.

Taste: Sweetness and cloves up front, with a crisp dry finish - maybe even some hints of apple in there at the end.

Mouthfeel: Mild carbonation on the tongue, followed by a crisp finish.

Drinkability: Very good with a meal (slow cooked cabbage and noodles with paprika, onions, and sour cream), and I think it would be very good all by itself. An overall very good beer.

Appears a transparent light gold with a 2 finger head of white froth that doesn't want to drop. Plenty of co2 streams rise to the top of the glass. Little droplets of lacing are left around the glass.
Aromas of banana, vanilla, clove, citrus, and light apple are apparent...same as the hefe but perhaps less phenolic and in your face.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with the same statement holding true in comparison to the hefe, which I tasted side by side.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with decent carbonation tickling the palate during the swallow.

Pours a clear golden brew with a nice white head.

Smell is banana and spices and grains, faintly wheaty and cloves.

Taste is mildly sweet and spicy with a mild hop flavor.

Mouthfeel is well thought out, very creamy.

Very drinkable brew, good any time any place.

Had at Doner Bistro in Leesburg, VA

A - Pale straw body and very clear with champaign-like bubbles. Nice sticky white head but a little less rocky than it's unfiltered hefeweizen cousin.

S - Very light wheat aroma with small traces of banana and lemon. Clean in the nose with a nice sweet maltiness.

T&M - Very bubbly in the mouthfeel that makes this a little bit dry but still quite smooth. Medium bodied with a crisp lemon rind flavor with light hints of banana. A nice wheat snap in the end. Tastes just like what I would expect a filtered hefeweizen to taste like.

O - I really enjoyed this and it goes down very easy. Even more so than a hefeweizen. A nice lighter version of one of my favorite styles.
