Style: Kristalweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
In our golden-yellow crystal-clear wheat beer the fresh citrus flavour harmonises very well with spicy banana notes. The fine sparkling gives it a tangy and animated appearance. Throughout summer and winter, it’s a prickling experience. It goes well with fish, seafood, white meat or it can be enjoyed as an aperitif. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Very clear gold yellow color. Thin body with just above average almost champagne like carbonation. Aroma is bananas, yeasty bread, and malt. Taste is similar with a bit of banana bread with a mild hop bitterness. Well done and worth revisiting

From notes taken 06/11/17:

Pure, clear, extra pale gold color. Delicate, melting fine-foamed white head of moderate retention, film-forming. Distinct and semi-tart but mild banana and then a whiff of yeast are the main aromas here. Similar palate but with honey and lemon suggestions. Good balance, delicious and drinkable, but not really complex enough to be interesting. That’s more the specific style though than this brewery’s iteration of it. Medium-bodied, creamy even apart from the fairly mellow carbonation, just barely tingly and softening gradually to fine suds.

Damn good. For a wheat beer this baby is almost lager clear. Good effervescent
carbonation. Faint smell of corridander and orange. Not extreme on the citrus but balanced. Wow...it just amazes the palate. Perfect wheat beer. Balance is phenomenal. Hoegaarden suck it!!!

Pours a crystal clear gold with plentiful effervesce streaming up from the bottom, producing a huge (to the point of being difficult to pour), white, tight/finely bubbled, lasting, foamy head that leaves only a few motes & strings of lacing. Aroma is wheat, dough, honey, fruity notes, green banana, spice, clove & citrus. Taste is a nice blend of wheat, cloves, fruity notes, spice, green banana with pepper spice, thin honey & floral/herbal hopiness in the finish. After taste is shortlived wheat, floral, banana & clove. Medium bodied with a medium-high carbonation, smooth, dry & lightly oily with a chewy hint. A very dependable, old favorite.

Beautiful clear gold color with white cap and good lacing.\

Aroma of fresh yeast rolls, honey, flowers and spices.

Taste on entry is a complex array of sweet, bready malt with floral, spicy hops weaving in and around the central malt core. Very complex, very sophisticated, very, very good.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

This is World Class from start to finish. It just has a sense of being that makes the American copies seem rustic in comparison.

500ml bottle - it's always nice to see new products from this venerable brewery show up in one's neighbourhood, isn't it?

This beer pours a crystal-clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with four zaftig fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy bone-white head, which leaves some streaky webbed lightning pattern lace around the glass as it slowly but surely blows off.

It smells of bready and doughy wheat malt, damp banana chips, a subtle yeastiness, some muddled earthy spice, clover honey, and some very, very tame earthy, musty, and estery floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and doughy cereal wheat malt, underripe bananas, faint indistinct citrus notes, a still understated yeasty character, some clove and white pepper spice, and more sort of strange musty, herbal, and floral noble hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly tame in its workaday frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess evolving shortly after take-off here. It finishes off-dry, that wheaten cereal thing lingering like the boss that it is.

Overall - this is a decent enough version of the style, pretty much just a cleaner incarnation of the base Hefeweizen. Flavourful, and easy to drink, on a pleasantly 'warm' autumn Alberta weekend afternoon.
