Our Korbinian, the full-bodied, dark Doppelbock with light brown foam, wins beer-lovers over with a balance of fruity hints of plums and figs, a dark malt aroma - reminiscent of toffee, nuts and chocolate. Its roasted flavour goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as venison and poultry. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

16.9-ounce bottle, poured into what must be a 22-ounce mug (I don't know how big it is -- I should look into this).
Appearance: Deep, rich, dark brown, with hints of dark red when held up to a light source. Not a ton of head, but given that I'm accustomed to wheat beers, I could be biased. What head there is (probably just over one finger) is dark brown, and it recedes fairly quickly. Minimal lacing.
Smell: Malt-tastic. Toasty, roasty, and altogether unseasonable (I drank this in Atlanta in early September, when it was about 85 degrees outside). There's a nice, cozy/spicy note to the aroma, and I pick up something fleeting and vaguely raisin-like, too.
Taste: Man, this is fall/winter beer. Again, I can best describe it as "cozy." The toasted malt prevails, but there's an underlying sweetness and dried-fruit essence that carries the beer down your throat. As such, it's almost unsettlingly unrefreshing when served cold -- at least in the traditional "cold beer" sense. It kind of makes me thirsty, but this isn't an entirely bad thing, as what it makes me thirsty for is more Korbinian!
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is rather mild, especially as compared to everything else Weihenstephaner produces. The result is a "thick"-feeling beer, somewhere between a stout and a barleywine. It's got an almost food-like, heavy mouthfeel. This works well with the warming, wintry taste and smell.
Drinkability: Oh, it's very drinkable. The alcohol is barely perceptible, which is impressive for a 7.4 ABV brew. I plan to drink a lot of this during the cold-weather months. It goes down smooth, sweet, and delicious, and it leaves you thirsty for more. What's not to like?

Zero head retention. Nice clear dark amber color. Tastes thin, but enough to cover any abv. Probably OK for its style, just all malt. Some chocolate and coffee. Zero sweetness. Recommended by a lover of German beers who also thought the label was cool, but this proves again to never pick a pick a beer by its label.

I usually go to this brewer for their heffewisen and they arguably make the best of that style .... I guess I shouldn't be surprised if they make a very nice dark beer as well ... Top notch and thumbs up

Dark ruby colour, clear. Beige foam, composed of small bubbles, high, characterised by a long reduction time. Gently paints on the glass.
Aroma sweet, malty, caramel, slightly roasted, with hints of marmalade, dried plums and a hint of tobacco accents. With time, aromas of fresh bread and dark chocolate emerge.
Sweet taste (caramel, marmalade) broken by a slightly roasted, ashy bitterness.
Medium saturation downwards. Texture smooth. Body high, full. Aftertaste long malty sweet with a dry roasted finish.

the smell, is of chocolate, with some kind of fruit, with a bit of malt
the color is a very dark, almost Guinness color , but when you hold it up to the light, it's a dark ruby
the head poured nice and fluffy , and has a lot of lacing
it tastes like toast bread, covered in chocolate, with either cherry or strawberry jelly mixed in
and for 32 ibu, you don't taste the bitterness

500 ml dark brown bottle, 7,4% abv, pours nicely at around 8 degrees celcius in we Weihenstephaner glass, with a 3 finger creamy-beige head, disollving at medium to fast pace.
Smell, ginger bread, roasted notes, bit of coffee and some peppery spices.
Mouthfeel, lovely creamy, sweet, bready, with a dark roasted coffee aftertaste.
Never unpleasant.
Very nice beer for cold and dark winter nights.

Bought in Central FL at ABC in pint bottle. Pours dark like a porter or iced coffee. Smells slightly of molasses and caramel and dried fruits like raisins or prunes. Very small head, very fine carbonation. Tastes very much like it smells. A bit of bitterness, coffee, carbonation, and finished with a little alcohol. Very easy to drink. I like it quite a bit. It's like a porter meets an IPA. That's the best way I can think of describing it.

Very dark ruby to brown; almost no light gets through. Head is light tan, and stays for a minute then dissipates.
Smells of cherries, figs, caramel, vanilla, and roasted malt.
Tastes absolutely delicious, following the smell, with no off or mismatched flavors. Tastes pure and well blended. Almost like an all natural and more delicious version of Dr pepper. Like, to take all the bad stuff in Dr. Pepper (which is everything) and throw all of that out, and replace it with a beverage that is 100% natural grown and twice as delicious (Yes, I understand that this brewery has been making doppelbocks FAR longer than Dr. Pepper made it's 23 flavors soda).
Mouth feel has light carbonation, fair alcohol presence (but definitely not overbearing), yet it's full bodied from the massive malt bill.
Overall, the best doppelbock I've ever tried, and I will definitely buy more of this!
Also, I bought some Appenzeller cheese to go with this, and my GOD it was the best food-beer pairing I think I've had.
