Style: Doppelbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.40%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Korbinian, the full-bodied, dark Doppelbock with light brown foam, wins beer-lovers over with a balance of fruity hints of plums and figs, a dark malt aroma - reminiscent of toffee, nuts and chocolate. Its roasted flavour goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as venison and poultry. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

L-Dark ruby red beer with a nice, very distinct German hearty head.
S- I get aromas of chocolate, malts, slight stone fruit and strong biscuit.
T- It follows the nose, with the exception of a good bitterness. Notes of chocolate, malt, stone fruit and biscuit.
F- Medium bodied mouth feel.
O- Very good Dopplebock with a huge biscuit flavor. Overall, there is a chocolate, fruit and malt flavor that is extremely present, but still overshadowed by the biscuit flavor and aroma. Could be better, but certainly could be worse.

Poured from 500ml bottle into glass. Date stamping on label is '3277 08:30:57'.
Ruby brown colored body, appears to be clear. Beige, long lasting head. Ring and spots of lacing left after each sip.
Plums and figs in the aroma, with chocolate malt hints.
Taste also has the dark fruits, and the chocolate, along with a nutty toffee aspect. More sweet than bitter overall. Finishes with a dark bready like flavor.
Thin to medium mouth feel. Rather smooth rather than biting.
Drinks like a meal in the glass.

Murky brown, slight tan head with wash. Aroma is light and enticing with wet fig, caramel toffee and warm malt. Taste has lots of bready german malt upfront and then transitions into some plum juice, prune, cola phenol, rye bread. Hearty without being heavy. Mouthfeel is a little thin

Beautiful clear deep ruby body with a fizzy tan head. Raisin, caramel, toffee on the nose. It's very sweet. The taste also offers these notes, but adds a bit of pure raw grain and balancing bitterness; it's still very sweet. It's warming, and the rich, toffee, plum, raisin, apricot, caramel, booze mixture is good, but a little 1D and heavy handed. The body is rich, heavy, sticky.
This may be the classic taste of a doppelbock; boozy, sweet, with dried dark fruit, but it's too unilateral, even for my simple taste. A classic nonetheless.

Really good for this style.
Now I'll try to pick apart the smell and taste.
L: Dark Brown.
S: Personally I get malt, caramel and raisin.
T: I get a nice malty caramel, raisin and I think chocolate with the aftertaste that lingers.
F: Medium fullness.
Overall I would recommend this, it's just tasting beer.

I picked this up today and it blew my mind in the best possible way. I poured it into my frosted mug and it started off with a nice sandy brown head. The color is dark brown. The aroma is strong with malt, sweet fruit and an almost woodsy smell. The taste is complex with a malty profile that has an added dark fruity kick with a presence of decent hoping. Overall a great dopplebock I will hopefully find this one again soon.

I here people talk about the nougat chocolate or marzipan that they get with this one. Sorry, but I am not tasting anything like that. All I am getting is a mass of dark fruit notes. I know how to decipher the Weihenstephaner julian code, so I know that my bottle is fresh. I am a little disappointed with this beer. hmmmmm oh well you can't go gaga over everything you try out in life. Furthermore, I think this is a little better than the Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock; in other words, it is not as rough to drink a bottle of. Cheers! C (75-79) score range

Nose: (fresh) some freshness of roasted malt, fig, toffee, molasses, & hint of honey. (aged 1 year after 'best before') strong roasted malt, toffee, stronger honey notes, and here comes more dark fruits such as plums, dark raisins.

Taste: (fresh) SARSI! Here we have a strong carbonation fill with roasted malt! Follow by some toffee, molasses sweetness, definitely bread yeast, tiny bits of honey and vanilla. It ends with some beef stock... Brovil? (aged) less carbonation... as expected, however the roasted malt here is stronger, the toffee sweetness is more profound, dark fruits starting to show themselves, plums especially. Both have their strength, the young ones have the Sarsi taste which i LOVE alot! The aged ones have the stronger toffee sweetness and plums.

Aftertaste: (both) medium long with some roasted malt sourness and toffee sweetness.

Hands down my favorite Doppelbock, not that it have the most complex taste but it satisfy me everytime i drank one.

I love this beer. It's a caramel bomb, especially on the back palate which all of the great doppelbocks are. I get no dark fruit, no roastiness, and no hops. I can picture this being as many calories as a king-sized Milky Way.

Smells like it tastes. Caramel malts and sugar. Mouth feel is medium thick. Beautiful brown beer, average carbonation.

Very sweet beer. Excellent alternative to Celebrator and makes Salvator and Consecrator both taste like disagreeable hoppy messes. Recommend highly.

Looks like a dark Oktoberfest beer. Smells of roasted malts, molasses, and toffee. It doesn’t taste as sweet as it smells, the caramel malts hit you first with some molasses on the back end. I’m not a huge fan of this style but have tried a few others. This is well made and has plenty of complexity. The high abv is well hidden but will sneak up on you. I’ll drink again. Tried it again and it has a distinct toffee flavor that is awesome. I like even more on the second try.
