Style: Doppelbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.40%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Korbinian, the full-bodied, dark Doppelbock with light brown foam, wins beer-lovers over with a balance of fruity hints of plums and figs, a dark malt aroma - reminiscent of toffee, nuts and chocolate. Its roasted flavour goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as venison and poultry. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

This is a really good doppelbock, smooth, chocolate notes mixed with some fruit, plum, a hint of caramel, just a very pleasant drink that leaves a very nice aftertaste as well. If you enjoy beers with flavor then this is a beer you gatta try.

A very smooth and delicious doppelbock. No heavy alcohol bite yet had strong delicious burnt toffee flavor. One of the best doppelbock I ever had.

Poured from 16.9oz bottle into Pilsener Glass. Date that I do not understand just says 7236.

L: Pours a deep dark mahogany, that looks quite clear, two fingers of tight, khaki head that retains pretty well.

S: Smells very similar to a Ayinger Celebrator (which I love) so very malty, with dark fruits, dark bread, yeast, chewy dough, caramel and toffee. Delectable.

T: Again a definite malt-bomb, toasted dark bread, dark fruit, caramel, wheat bread, some peppery spice and earthy hop that adds good bitterness yet still a mostly sweet palate. Very tasty. Not Ayinger quality but damn near.

F: Super creamy mouthfeel, Medium-full body, crisp carbonation.

O: A superb beer and magnificent Doppelbock.

Brown with tan head. Smells of honey and crackers. Taste is stellar with fig, caramel, and apple. Later, some cola flavors come through. Body is smooth and full, yet drinkable. Overall, a highly recommended beer.

I've had this beer countless times but have only recently started writing reviews on this site. This is a hard beer not to love and maybe the best doppelbock I've had the pleasure of trying aside from maybe Celebrator from Ayinger. Always a trea

Look: pours a deep brownish-red with a thick and creamy head. Schon indeed
Aroma: dried fruits (dates, figs mostly), bready
Taste: follows the nose but everything just seems to come to life. Like comfort food in all the best ways possible and the dried fruit notes really being the highlight for me
Mouthfeel: creamy, oh so creamy with a nice bit of carbonation

Overall: If you haven't tried this beer and you have an interest in the style or if you just like dark malty beer in general, please do yourself a favor and seek it out! Prost!

Pours a very dark brown, essentially black in color with some mahogany hints at the edges and two fingers of dense, long lasting Off white head. Aroma is very inviting with toast, dark bread, dark fruits, and a hint of chocolate. Taste hits the same notes as the aroma; lots of delicious dark bread, a bit of chocolate, and some dark fruits in the background. Very clean, this is all about the rich malt character; this is very lightly sweet with almost no bitterness. Medium+ body and low-moderate carbonation; I'd expect a bit more body here. This is pretty delicious, its richly malty with a good depth of flavor. Alcohol is very well hidden and this drinks great.

Look - Pours near black in color with ruby highlights on the bottom, a thin ring of tan head settles quickly.
Aroma - Bakers chocolate, rye bread, roasted nuts, slight sour. As it warms a suggestion of hazelnut coffee.
Taste - Sweet chocolate up front, slightly puckery at first, mildly tannic, sweetness comes back to balance things out with medjool date and faint caramel. Notes of fresh dark and sourdough bread toward the middle make up the majority of the body. Quick roasted barley note. The finish is incredible with smooth rustic malt flavors and a mellow chocolatey dessert-like aftertaste.
Feel - Medium - Full bodied, creamy and smooth carbonation, slightly chewy, velvety and luxurious finish. Amazing.

Overall - This is about as close to perfection as you can get. Everything seems so precise and well thought out. The flavor and feel are so luxurious that it almost feels like a sin to drink this beer. This is a religious experience in a bottle.

LOOK: Dark brown color, some light passes through, maybe 20%. White head fades, but has beautiful, small bubbles upon pour.
AROMA: caramel malt, rye, brown bread. Touch of metallic hops.
TASTE: honey, rye/pumperknickel bread.
FEEL: looks flat, but beer stays alive even after head has fades, medium body.

Very tasty....glad I started trying these Weihenstephaners. Not a bad one yet.

I poured this into a weizen glass. The appearance was a dark murky brown almost close to black, but it had a nice settling off white to white foamy head that allows a nice dissipation at a nice pace. The smell had a deep dark chocolate to banana maltiness invading my nose powerfully. The taste was allocated well between the chocolate malts and the banana esters to produce an indulgent dessert-like flavoring. There is a nice chocolate banana like aftertaste with a quick dry finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium on the body with a decent carbonation for its style and comes across well to me. Sessionability - maybe, but for me I tend to find this one more as a sipper and well worthy of a dessert in and of itself. Overall, hmmm...I think I said what I needed to say other than don’t pass this up if you see it.
