Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Korbinian, the full-bodied, dark Doppelbock with light brown foam, wins beer-lovers over with a balance of fruity hints of plums and figs, a dark malt aroma - reminiscent of toffee, nuts and chocolate. Its roasted flavour goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as venison and poultry. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Pours a rich, dark brown color with caramel highlights and a surprisingly modest head (considering the mammoth heads of many other Weihenstephaner brews). The aroma is sweet and boozy, though not especially strong. The flavor is quintessential dopplebock, with plenty of brown sugar, maple syrup, caramel, and even rumors of dark fruit. I have to give credit to the brewers for not letting the ample sweetness become cloying, as is so often the case with dopplebocks. Trace amounts of wheat and char also manifest as the beer warms. The complexity here is nuanced, but laudible, and while some alcoholic warmth creeps in gradually, it is never ungainly.

Korbinian stays true to style without beating you over the head with it, which I very much appreciate. The mouthfeel is exceptional, lending a light, velvety texture to the brew. I've never been much of a fan of dopplebocks, but this is one of the finer ones I've come across, and certainly something I could see myself going back to if the mood strikes me. Just another testament to the excellence the Weihenstephaner folk put forth as a matter of practice.

A clear red brown brew, a warm off-white head, good lacing and some curtains.

Smelling of caramel and butter scotch, dark forest fruits.

Hard bread and brown bread crust, bitter orange marmalade.

Little carbonation, soft and refreshing, a medium body and a nice dryish finish.

A well done, well balanced brew, nice and very modest.

an outstanding doppelbock, one of the best in its class. pours a nice frothy amber brown color with some off white patchy lacing. it smells wood aged, but i dont think it is, lots of oaky tones amongst the sweet german malts and biting alcohol. a nice caramel and musky flavor is memorable in this beer, but it also has traces of smoke and peat, a really complex and warming brew. its got a great feel as well, velvet smooth, big body, and subtle but adequate carbonation. this is a perfect fall season beer, brilliant with grilled food, cigars, and college football. id recommend this baby to anyone who likes big malty gernam beers, this one is impressive.
