Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. Pours a nearly clear deep amber/pale brown. Produces such a large, aggressive head it is difficult to pour. A thick cap remains when it settles. Remarkably it leaves almost no lace on the side of the glass as it recedes. Aroma is heavy to clove, banana, dark wheat bread, caramel & a little coriander. Taste is fruity & bready with clove, banana & caramel. I don't pick up on the coriander here. A little bitterness in the finish and aftertaste combines with the sweetness to provide a nice balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Wet, mouth coating with a pleasant carbonation bite. An exemplary version of the style.

Presentation: 12 oz sleek euro brown bottle with the boasting words “Oldest Brewery in the World” on the label, freshness date is on the back label.

Appearance: Deep tarnish copper with a red hue, some haze from the addition of the yeast into the glass. After a proper pouring a thick meringue like head forms and stay for the duration.

Smell: Malty nose, light brown malt or toasted. Suggestions of green apple, yeast and pie spice also in the aroma.

Taste: Moderate body that is well structured and able to hold the soft malty palate, very crisp carbonation that is at a perfect level. As soon as the carbonation hits there is a spicy snap of clove and a twang from the fermented wheat. Nice even malt flavour with a bit of toasted and dry malt character. Neutral though a bit nutty yeast on the tongue. Minimal bitterness from the hops, barely noticeable. Vague fruitiness of over dried raisins and plantains though esters are controlled. All in all the finish is quite clean and is comparatively a dry beer.

Notes: By far one of the greatest dark wheat beers available in the US market to date, very soft on the palate … no harshness at all. Malt flavour is near perfection with all the other flavours kept as a backdrop to let the malt be dominant.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 0.9oz bottle into a Weizen Glass. The abv is listed on the label at 5.3% and there is no freshness date.

Appearance: It has a deep hazy orange amber body with visible carbonation. A quick pour fills the glass with foam. After a minute to settle I very slowly finished pouring and ended up with a nice three finger head. The light beige head hangs on well and makes lots of cool lace patterns on the glass.

Smell: Big German yeast notes rush up to fill my nose. The aroma is all about the classic banana notes with some mild clove and bready sweet malt.

Taste: The best way to describe this beer is that is like banana bread with nuts and chocolate chips. The palate is a firm medium body with nice active carbonation.

Notes: Outstanding!!! This beer is a work of wheat beer art.

Poured from a bottle into glass mug and served at approximately 50 degrees.

A: poured a beautiful brownish copper color with half inch head that lasted and left good lacing through the finish

S: a very dynamic aroma from opening the bottle to the last drop consisting of biscuits, bready and hop notes, and a touch of wood

T: fantastic, flavors that came through matched and were brought out more intensely by covering the entire palate, bready, some hops, and a smooth finish

M: medium/full mouthfeel coating the palate just enhanced the flavors even more

D: filling, could only drink one or two but what an experience those two would be

If there is a perfect beer, this is it! From first opening the bottle through the pour and right to the finish this beer is superb!

Poured from 500ml bottle into pint glass. Pours a rich, opaque amber. Lots and lots of head subsides over the course of several minutes.

Smell is rather faint - malty sweetness predominates. Taste follows smell - the beer starts out sweet and finishes sweeter (though nothing close to the cloying sugariness of a Scottish wee heavy). The mouthfeel is a little light, with noticeable carbonation.

Overall, it's an okay brew. I've definitely had better dunkels (Erdinger Dunkel comes to mind), but it's by no means a drain pour.

A 500ml bottle with a best before date of 16th September 2015 and poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a hazy copper colour with a nice three finger cream head that stuck around for a long time leaving some spotty lacing.

Aroma: Mainly caramelised banana with hints of bready malts, caramel and a tinge of pear.

Taste: Bready malt base followed by ripe banana, bubblegum and caramel. Hints of grape and raisin in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium crisp carbonation.

Overall: A very nice dunkelweizen that is very easy to drink. I would buy this again if it was available in Hong Kong, but for now, I will just have to keep bringing it back from Thailand and South Korea.

Light brown color, with a beautiful beige foam, compact and abundant.
Light and delicate smell, malt, caramel, a bit of biscuit.
At the taste is delicate, again, with malt, biscuit, caramel, a hint of light burnt. Not too sweet, pleasant.
Maybe a light fruity note of elder?
Same notes in the aftertaste, with a finish tending to liquorice and roots.
Average body.

Pours cloudy amber with a fluffy white head. Nose of bananas and clove, but with more malt and wheat. Bubbly mouthfeel. Sweet flavors of banana are blended nicely with the wheat, bread, and yeast tastes. Good malt profile that gives it a filling feel.

Why not review the classic? I will be attending TU Munchen and studying for my Braumeister's degree at Brauerei-Weihenstephan,so heres to school!

This Dunkleweizen pours out a dark-amber hued tan, absolutley gorgeous, billowy head blooms from the top of the weiss glass. Notes of colves, some banana, citrus, yeasts, hallertau hops. Flavor is absolutley refreshingly delicious-cloves,citrus,banana on the finish some bready yeasts in there as well. Crisp mouthfeel makes for crazy good drinkablity. Having this beer oder Radler(with a splash of lemonade) is how it was presented to me in Germany, where they drink this at 10 Am. read on the health benefits of these brews, and these people are really on to something!

Pours a deep hazy amber golden color with a big (huge) creamy ivory head that lasts forever and leaves great lacing.

Smells very yeatsy lemon citrus. Has faint alcohol with strong bread dough and lots of wheat. Faint earthy and spicy hops.

Has strong wheat and yeasty sweet lemon citrus. Strong but soft bitterness that lingers forever. As it warms, earthy and spicy hops come through more.

Medium to full bodied and very smooth. Very full flavored for 5.3 abv.

I could session this all night.

A - Dark brown w/ amber highlights. Head stiff but dissipated and laced only slightly.

S - Clove, yeast and slight malt.

T - Clove dominates, some subtle pepper. Banana comes out as it warms.

M - Light carbonation. A little thinner than I imagined it would be, but not watery.

O - Pretty cool that this is the oldest brewery in the world dating back to 1040. The quality is definitely there. Not too heavy. Wouldn't turn it down.

Pours dark copper, some gold in the light. A large light mocha head takes forever to dissipate and leaves some spotty lacing, and a permaring.

Smell is of yeast, roast malt, lightly peppery and fruity.

Taste is somewhat less however. Lightly peppery, with some malts and yeast, and a nice tang on the finish.

Feel is smooth and light, yet some texture from the wheat, yeasty aspect.

Another good beer from an excellent brewery. Only a few other places make a better Dunkel.

This beer pours a very hazy brown with some lighter orange and golden highlights. At first when held up to the light it reminded me of apple cider until the last pour with all the yeast sediment turned it more murky and dark. The head is massive, creamy, thick and off white. Retention and lacing are both off the charts.

Smell is banana, clove, nuts, toasted bread, some sweet spices and a touch of caramel.

Taste is similar, but even more flavorful. The yeast flavors are the star of the show, but the toasted bread, and sweet spices and caramel add a nice layer of complexity in the background.

Feel is light side of medium with great carbonation. Smooth bordering on creamy with a crisp zing on the finish from the carbonation.

Overall this beer is awesome. As much as I love their Hefe, I prefer this beer for the added complexity. A absolute pleasure to drink.

Pours murky tan/brown with rich, luscious white head.

Nose reminds me of candy apples at the state fair. Also very bready/yeasty. It screams "Fresh!".

Palate starts out with toasty caramel malt sweetness, with some typical hefe-weizen flavors mixed in (banana, slight clove).

Medium to light bodied and highly carbonated, for very quenching gulps of this fine ale.

One of the best dunkelweizens I've ever had.
