Notes / Commercial Description:
Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. A fruity-fresh sweetness and hints of mature bananas harmonise with delicious flavours of roasted malt, sparkling and full-bodied with a light caramel taste on the first sip. An excellent accompaniment from hearty meals and game to chocolate and nut desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

16oz draft in a shaker glass. $7.

Light copper in colour and quite hazy with a fluffy, off-white head that faded quickly, but not entirely. A little lacing.

A tart and fruity aroma, with citrus and bananas, and some malted, bready wheat.

Assertive banana and clove flavours, with a little orange to back them up. Nicely malty with noticeable Maillard products. No hop flavours and a barely perceptible bitterness. Finishes a little sweet

Surpringly light-bodied witout much carbonation.

a brownish, coppery color. little bit orange, quite hazy. Huge creamy foamy head on top. very appealing to look at. zero lacing, but good film on top that really never leaves. smell is malts and banana bread. Smells yeasty and alive. very complex and full bodied in the mouth, yet perfectly balanced. At 5.5%, it has the perfect amount of alcohol (i.e. you can detect it, but it never overwhelms). This is as close to perfection as I've ever had in this style. Weihenstephaner's recipe has had 1000 years to be perfected and it really is perfect to the taste. Wonderful feel. simultaneously refreshing and intriguing. I get a really great feeling from this beer. Weihenstephaner is a classic brewery that has this style down to perfection. this comes through in every aspect of this beer. This is an outstanding beer that is on my shortlist of all time favorites!

Man any review from me on Dunkel-anything should come with a disclaimer that I don't like this shit by style. So if you're all geeked out on this style of beer, just ignore this, its for my records rather than an objective compendium on the style and worthiness.

Pours dark, looks like iced soy sauce that they freeze distilled the water out of, almost no head, some remnants of a tan head on the top 1/7". Aroma heavy on the booziness and dark fruit charred remains.

Taste, woof, lots of bananas and alcohol. Sticky but not in the dank way. Heavy burnt caramel notes. Nuts and chocolate malt. High amount of spice rack and clove that says it don't care. Yeast dominated. This came across more like a doppelbock than a dunkel, but all that dark wheat stuff almost never translates to an enjoyable beer for me. I like wheat as a lighter alternative to all barley, when you roast the shit out of it, it just doesn't make sense to my palate.

L: pours a cloudy copper color, with a gigantic top of creamy white head.Tge head disolves in a very slow pace .Sticky nice lacings on the glass.

A: banana, cloves,oranges, bread, caramel.

T&F: Starts off fruity with a flavour of banana, with the malt strong in the background where I sense bread and caramel. Inn the middle the spixes takes over with a strong presence of cloves.
Finishes of with a long spicy sweetness in the aftertaste that is balanced very well. The mouthfeel is creamy with a light carbonation, and is so easy drinking and delicious.

O: So far the best dunkelweizen I have tasted. This beer was very well made and I enjoyed it to the last drop. An amazing beer from an amazing brewery.

Well-rated beer here, from an excellent brewery. I can't think of another dunkelweizen that I've had before, at least in any recent memory.

Pours a cloudy, murky, tan to copper color with a big, foamy head on top. Looks like a tasty beverage. Aroma of banana and clove nearly dominate the smell, with very subtle caramel malts and oranges lingering in the background. It's flavor has all the characteristics of a nice quality hefeweizen, paired with some malt roastiness. It has perfect effervescent carbonation. Really good stuff.

Outstanding beer from Weihenstephan! The best way to describe this beer is to take their already great Hefeweissbier, give it a more malty taste, feel, and add a subtle roasted component to the taste. Feel is also less carbonated than their Hefe, I assume the roast process has something to do with this, but either way this is IMO the best beer Weihenstephan brews hands down, and I am a big fan of Korbinian and their Hefeweissbier too.

Poured 500ml into nonic pint glass. A light mahogany brown with a 2.5 finger creamy white foam head with traces of lacing on my glass. It has a nice fruity sweetness with bread, hints of mature bananas, and roasted malt. Flavor is bready malts with some fruity banana notes, light caramel in the middle, and finishes with some spice. Feel is full-bodied with a creamy feel and excellent carbonation. A terrific beer for any time of the year.
