Notes / Commercial Description:
Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. A fruity-fresh sweetness and hints of mature bananas harmonise with delicious flavours of roasted malt, sparkling and full-bodied with a light caramel taste on the first sip. An excellent accompaniment from hearty meals and game to chocolate and nut desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Pours a mildly cloudy brown color with a fluffy two inch darkish white head that left ample lacing. Smells and tastes of fresh bread, bananas, cloves, allspice, pepper and toasted malts. Medium to heavy bodied, well carbonated, slightly dry finish with a smooth mouth feel.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel, 5.3% ABV, 14 IBU. Pours medium viscosity and chestnut brown, with a three+ finger white head that left no lacing. Nose is yeast/bread and mildly toasted malt. Taste is real mild, pepper, a bit toasty, some banana, no detectable bitterness. Outstanding mouthfeel, perfect carbonation and smooth. Overall outstanding. I've wanted to try this for a couple of years and finally got one - and am not disappointed. Very drinkable, could go through a number of these.

Pours a cloudy brown color. Thick bubbly head dissipates steadily to a thin layer of velvety tan foam along the top of the beer.

Smell has notes of wheat, peppery yeast, bread, all-spice, clove, and some hints of dark fruits.

Taste follows the nose with an array of spice flavors up front - pepper, allspice and clove encased in a strong wheat malt backbone that permeates the flavors. Some yeast come through with hints of dark fruits and bread. Has a bit of a twang to the flavor.

Feel is full bodied with mild carbonation. Somewhat drier finish.

Overall a very nice dunkelweizen. Certainly one I have and will drink again.

Look: Caramel, golden, cloudy. Beautiful fluffy dark white head. The head and lacing on this are beautiful.

Smell: Brown bananas, some banana bread spice, slightest hint of gingerbread.

Taste: baking spices, bready malted notes with slight banana after tones. Not much bitterness but by no means overly sweet.

Feel: Medium bodied +, each sip invites another one.

Overall: My local beer stores seem to be getting fresh Weihenstephaner more consistently and thus this is becoming a go-to beer/brewery for me. Always consistent, good priced, excellent offerings.

From the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This legend pours a murky orange tinged brown
color with a very nice head of off white foam that settles to a thick long lasting layer
that shows nice sudsy lacing. Nose of banana esters, breaded malts, soft sweet wheat,
and light toffee and caramel notes. Flavors follow but exceed with presentation of this
fine brew with caramel and subtle toffee notes awash in breaded malts and sweet
wheat flavors touched on all sides with a finely balanced banana note. Excellent mouth
feel; medium full body, medium carbonation that is lightly crisp and fulfilling, and a
sweet caramel and dark malt finish.

Glad to have tried this one again----a legend in it's own time. Excellent!

Cheers

Pours a semi cloudy brown color with super thick head. Smell has banana and clove aromas. Feels very thick and has no bitterness. Taste is that of bananas and phenol. First Dunkelweizen I've had and i'm fairly impressed. Would recommend.

This beer pours a very hazy brown with some lighter orange and golden highlights. At first when held up to the light it reminded me of apple cider until the last pour with all the yeast sediment turned it more murky and dark. The head is massive, creamy, thick and off white. Retention and lacing are both off the charts.

Smell is banana, clove, nuts, toasted bread, some sweet spices and a touch of caramel.

Taste is similar, but even more flavorful. The yeast flavors are the star of the show, but the toasted bread, and sweet spices and caramel add a nice layer of complexity in the background.

Feel is light side of medium with great carbonation. Smooth bordering on creamy with a crisp zing on the finish from the carbonation.

Overall this beer is awesome. As much as I love their Hefe, I prefer this beer for the added complexity. A absolute pleasure to drink.
