Style: Dunkelweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. A fruity-fresh sweetness and hints of mature bananas harmonise with delicious flavours of roasted malt, sparkling and full-bodied with a light caramel taste on the first sip. An excellent accompaniment from hearty meals and game to chocolate and nut desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

From a 500 ml bottle (code says 6353) into a hefe glass.

A-A gentle pour produces a dense, two-finger head of off-white foam. Retention is quite good and the head is supported by active carbonation that is visible through the haze. The beer is brassy copper in color.

S-The aroma is heavy on the banana esters and dough with a light lemon tartness. There is a gentle cocoa aroma and a faint bit of maltiness. It is very hefe like and would have expected more malt aromas, but damn if this isn't an inviting aroma.

T-The taste is not quite as lively and fruity as the aroma. There is still a lot of banana and some lemon, but there are also more subdued, earthy flavors like wet wheat, and a bit of toast. I taste some clove spice on the finish.

M-The feel is medium in heft with good drinkability and carbonation that trends toward soft and creamy.

O-This is yet another good wheat beer from Weihenstephan. I don't know that this brew provides the malt flavors I would expect from the style, which hurts the score, but the wheat beer aspect of this thing is nailed. Good looks, nice feel, inviting aroma, but a bit mild on the palate.
