Spent 3 hours here on the last Sunday afternoon of November '11

Upon arrival at 2.15pm - the place was packed with groups comprised largely of families lunching, but by the time we left it was mostly empty!

There are many different rooms, probably 4 or 5 inside, plus a large beer garden that was obviously not open at this time of year

The room we chose was down a small flight of stairs and resembled a medium sized cellar

A string quartet was playing in the corner for the first hour we were there

To the business end ...

8 beers available on tap on my visit, so I set my limit at 0.3l (available on most) in order to sample as many as possible

I visited, Helles, Dunkels, Weiss, Dunkels Weiss, Korbinium, Pils, St Vitus Bock and finished by sharing a bottle of 'Infinium' the champagne beer in collaboration with Sam Adams - served by the waiter into 'Infinium' flutes, whilst the bottle rested in an iced bucket

The service was very good and they soon adapted to our pace of drinking and my 2 x 0.3l to my friends 0.5 !

The food was amongst the best I have experienced in my many trips to Germany

This day was the last of a 3 week 'game' festival, so I opted for the Game stew.
Amazing !!! Hare Hock, Roast Boar and Venison steak with dumplings and red cabbage!

Cannot recommend highly enough and will visit in the summer next time to sample the beer garden

From Munchen you can catch an RE train (23 mins) to Freising Hbf

From here it is a 15/20 minute walk or E7.50 in a cab

We got a cab back to Munchen Airport E25 which is worth knowing

Being in Munich and this close to Freising we decided that we had to visit the oldest brewery in the world, so it was a train trip and off to Weihenstephan. After arriving in Freising and figuring out the bus arrangements, we arrived at the front campus drop-off, but then we had to figure out where the bierstube was. Nearby campus map boards didn't help, so we walked to the top of the hill. When we thought that we were close but still unable to find it we asked two students (who had never been there) for help but they couldn't get us there either. So we continued to walk around trying to find the place. Then all of a sudden we rounded a corner and we saw people drinking.

Wow! Great beers and food, and that is not a trite understatement. We ordered a 3-beer sampler (Helles, Wheat and Dunkel) plus small pours of Korbinian and Vitus. Wow, wow, wow! Deliciousness at it's best.

This visit may have been the pinnacle of our entire trip. Navigating the train, the Friesing city bus system, and finding the pub in the university complex of buildings were all a challenge, but well worth it. The beer and food at Weihenstephan were outstanding, with the Vitus Wheatbock and the Korbinian Dopplebock being the highlights. As good as the beers were, we ended up rating the food the best that we had for the entire trip. Afterwards, we found the path to be able to walk down the hillside to the train station. What a day! Highly recommended. Plan on a full day and check out the other beer places in town too.

We visited the brewery a few years ago and had a lot of fun. The beer was fantastic and the grounds gorgeous. We ate the Bräustüberl And it was nice.

The food was decent and the service more than adequate. I've had much better food in Germany, but it was hard to beat the atmosphere and the fresh Weihenstephan. Overall a great experience.

What a gorgeous place to enjoy some of the world's most classic brews. The outside beer garden here is absolutely beautiful.

Visited here early March 2015. Short train ride from Munich to Freising, a bus up the hill, then had to walk about 250 meters to the brewery.

Very German, very clean. I didn't get to do the tour (but I signed up for it since I'm going to be back soon) so I just went into the Braustuberl for lunch. EXCELLENT! My waitress was nice, attentive in a German/European way [they don't come over every 5 minutes to check on you - Americans are often not used to that]. Had 2 Vitus beers (delicious) and the Brotzeitbrettl, which is basically a cutting board with sausage, cheese, and a couple typical German spreads for bread. Great portions, fresh and delicious.

Can't wait to go back.
