Beautiful deep amber color on this, short creamy head. Aroma of honey, very sweet. Taste is nuts, honey, citrus...very complex flavor. Smooth and delicious, this one I’d like to try again.

Deep orange body quite hazy.
Aroma is quite bready but can't get much else from it.
Taste is complex with candy and orange rind at first, then a warm alcohol sweetness with a little hop zing at the end.
Very thick carbonation with the body changing from relatively dense to effervescent.

330ml bottle served in its own tulip like glass.

Enjoyed in Sion, Switzerland during Christmas time.

A: Pours a hazy amber color forming a medium bubbled yellow head. Medium retention and some lacings left

S: Sweet and spicy in the nose. Notes of caramel malts, honey, herbs, candy sugar. Yeasts are bready and kind of Belgian. Light notes of flowery hops

T: Sweet malts upfront with notes of candy sugar, caramel, honey and herbs. In overall, a sweet beer with practically no hops bitterness. Bready yeasts

M: Medium body and carbonation. Sweet grains and spicy aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Quite sweet and spicy but not overwhelming. Pleasant beer from my favourite French brewery so far

Didn't know what to expect, a traditional ale, but it tasted like a biere de garde, but lighter, and a little sourish. Yes some spice, with a puff of smoke. Average mouthfeel. Nothing to look at, with a light brown colour and only slight brown head. Thanks Doug for this one off the beaten path.

33 cl bottle purchased in Strasbourg.

Pours looking like a fresh foamy apple cider: cloudy and unfiltered, there is a very thick head that continues to linger until the final sips. Some of the best head retention I've seen.

The nose is a little sour tinged with a light candy sweetness: it reminds me of sweet tarts and sour apple candy. There is also a vague cola aroma to the beer which surprised me.

The taste is a little tart with a sweet malt base: the sour and sweet seem to be in good balance here. Not at all hoppy, there is still a slight cola presence. There is a definite brettanomyces flavor that really contributes nicely to the overall bier de garde characteristics.

Overall a very pleasant beer that is well crafted and well balanced. Though there are few exceptional characteristics, it is a very good example of a French bier de garde + Belgian Pale hybrid.

Found a bottle in Dinan, Brittany for 2,50 Euro. Reminds me a bit of Rare Vos, as a smooth malty Belgian amber, but I this this better. There's a relaxed nutty bread crust with a little toffee and caramel thrown in. The barley profile seems to lie between an amber and brown, but no matter, it's tasty. I hate to use the word smooth again, but it is. Sort of like the great Irish red ales that are so damn hard to find. Overall, a rich aroma, rich flavor, but light and drinkable body. This one's a winner.

Bottle into Guinness brewhouse series imperial pint glass in Belfort, France. Reviewed live. Bottle acquired in Strasbourg, France, at Le Village de la Biere.

A: Two finger head of nice cream, good thickness, and average retention. Colour is a hazy caramel copper.

Sm: Some nut hops and caramelized malt. A medium strength scent. Barley maybe a bit musty, but not stale.

T: Pleasant nut hops alongside some pleasant cream, caramelized malt, and a barley foundation that isn't as full as it should be. The nut hops just mesh together rather than layering, and aren't balanced with care. It's built strangely for the style, as no bittering hops come through, but it's built well. It's only a little complex to its detriment. Doesn't refresh. The honey is quite nice, and subtle as well - probably the best part of the beer.

Mf: Coarse and wet. Doesn't really suit the flavours. A bit buttery, which is nice.

Dr: Drinkable enough, above average ABV, and pretty good quality. The price is alright by French standards.

A: Reddish orange, vigorous carbonation and a creamy, fluffy head.

S: Mint chocolate (like a peppermint patty) malt, delicious.

T: Often times I find an appearance and smell will be fantastic and the flavor doesn't live up, but this one gets pretty close. The mint chocolate part is somehow transposed into a similar but very different flavor. It's hard to describe, like nothing I've ever had. A bit spicy and earthy. Hints of sweetness

M: Both a teeny bit grainy and slightly smooth.

D: Excellent beer! Best one I've had since I was in the US. France actually makes some good ones.

Had from a bottle into a tall wine glass at a Creperie du Palais in Weimar, Germany.

A dark honey color, full of particulates and cloudiness. Quarter-inch head, off-white and dense.

Smelled yeasty with strong caramel and honey flavors. Not much presence of hops.

Taste was sweet, but not overly done. Not as caramelish, but sweet grains and honey. Rich, but not too dense.

The carbonation was a little low for me - but it was a hot day in Weimar and I was searching for a more quenching beer.

Easy to drink over the course of an entire afternoon - which I did. Along with a perfect crêpe Suzette. I would recommend this beer, but only one at a time.

Brasserie Lancelot is one of Frances older artisanal breweries at almost 20 years of operation.

Pours a foggy brown with a frothy amber hued head. Nose is like candy apples a bit. Perhaps a bit like old mature cherries as well. Flavor is very candy-like. Very sweet, but not enough to make you sick of it. Calms as it warms. Seems almost like a Flanders ale edge to it. Minor nutty tones on the backside. Feel has a full carbonation and the liquid is fairly thick on the body. This is a nice beer that brings some decent complexities to it, but only after it warms up a bit.

Poured from 33cl bottle into oversized wine glass. The label claims the aroma is obtained through the use of seven plants and a touch of honey. I see a mahogany color with a light tan head. Bubbles recede quickly with no lacing.

Nose is full of dried fruits, plums or apricots, along with some notes of cloves and earthy wood smells. Taste is fairly bitter for the style (Belgian pale). There are strong caramel flavors, as well as some toasted bread, and some plum flavor. Some nuttiness. A touch of lingering bitterness in the finish. There is certainly plenty of depth and complexity in here. Quite warming for a beer at 6%.

Drinkability - why did I buy just one? This is a darn fine brew.
