Stopped in on a Sunday to try the Rolling Meadows Springfield Wheat (an imperial hefe brewed downstate near Springfield), and learned sadly that Delavan is in a dry county on Sundays. Boo. Had lunch here anyways, despite the bad beer luck and we were impressed by the place. Definitely worth a short detour from Peoria or Bloomington for a fun daytrip.
Inside it feels like a remodeled turn-of-the-century restaurant, old tin ceilings, dark detailed wood trim, blonde wood flooring, towering dark back bar in the rear, and art deco style lamps hanging overhead, with stained glass wall lamps illuminating a row of booths on the right side. High on each wall there was a series of impressionist paintings of the idyllic landscape of the surrounding area. The small bar in the back was sort of the centerpiece of the space, with 6 taps in the center, and seating for 7-8. The tap selection alone was better than the Brewhaus in Springfield, and many other downstate bars.
On tap: Rolling Meadows Springfield Wheat, GI Matilda & Pere Jaques, Founders Harvest Ale & Breakfast Stout, and Dark Horse Scotty Karate. Average pint was $4.00, downright cheap in comparison to big city prices.
In bottles: Ephemere, Demolition, Sawtooth, NH Farmhouse Hatter, Bells Amber, Founders Dirty Bastard, Boulevard Sixth Glass (750mL for $12), Guinness, Lindemans Framboise, Coors & Miller.
Service was friendly and attentive, there wasn't much of a crowd at noon on a Sunday, so we were well taken care of.
We stuck to the lighter fare, venison chili, beet salad, smoked tomato soup, and it was all very tasty. Other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked hearty and well presented. The menu focuses on the "farm to table" trend of locally sourced and sustainable foods, with emphasis on seasonal items. Prices were reasonable, in line with the high quality ingredients.
Overall a hidden gem in an unexpected place, worth a detour if in the Peoria or Bloomington-Normal area.
