look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Arrives as a cloudy straw-colored pour; not much of a head nor much lacing

Smell: A whole range of things going on in the aroma - bubblegum, banana, clove, apple and citrus, to name a few

Taste: Bready and yeasty, up front, with the banana, bubblegum and clove flavors jutting forth; the tart apple and citrus elements develop mid-palate and the finish is a Chinese Opera of flavors

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Not quite sure what to make of it, nor was the Broadway Brewhouse able to shed much light, for that matter; interesting, but not something I would seek out again

Growler fill from Midtown. Poured into NB globe glass.

A: pours cloudy, murky, very hefe-like. Dirty yellow, thin white bubbly head.

S: banana, clove, bready malt, Belgian yeast

T: classic hefeweizen taste with a twist. Fresh husky wheat, ripe banana, Belgian yeast, and a nice backing of grassy hop bitterness.

M: medium bodied, frothy, coats the tongue and lingers.

O: Another excellent beer from CK. Tasteful, unique, a refreshing change from the norm. Can't wait to keep trying their stuff!

Is it the light or does this pour a bit like lakewater? Hazy and muddy, yellow with maybe a greenish tint and minimal head. The nose is a bit muddled, not showing a ton of estery banana but instead is dominated by sourdough, bread and spices. Where it falters, though, it makes up with a wonderful palate- light bodied with a yeasty creaminess and a mild wheat-like maltiness. Flavors include banana, clove and hints of smoke and fresh hoppy grassiness, maybe asparagus. The clove changes to more of a black pepper on the mildy tart and refreshing finish.

Another solid brew from CK. After having nothing but browns, porters and stouts from these guys, it's nice to see they do the lighter styles just as well. That bit of smoke on the palate was a great touch.

Pours a hazy, straw yellow with a white ring of head. Nice lacing left behind as the volume recedes.

Smell is banana esters typical of a nice hefe, that pleasant not overly aggressive phenol scent. Smell is crisp and light, somewhat reserved, wish the nose was a little fuller.

Taste starts out with an almost Belgian sweetness up front that I really dig. Initial sweet gives way to a spicy clove mid-palate, almost a relief from the assertiveness in the beginning. Finish is all German wheat with a faint return of the sweet and cloves as the taste retreats.

Reminiscent of some of my favorite wheat beers (SN Kellerweiss comes to mind) I definitely find this to be really refreshing, almost contrary to what the name would suggest. Absolutely worth tracking down during the oppressive Nashville summer.
