Trustworthy, an ale of character. Nice hints of coffee, chocolate, caramel and raw tobacco. Complex and compelling, yet straight forward, easy to love. A friend to the end. . . . Period.

Had this on tap at the Bearden Beer Garden in Knoxville, TN. Pours very murky and almost a purplish brown color. I am not sure what style this is supposed to be but it seems like a mix of several. There was a definite Belgian character to this whether it was the yeast or maybe some candi sugar or something. Tasted pretty good overall. Aroma were slightly sweet and Belgian like with some cloviness. Flavors were pretty tight as well. A definite change of pace and a decent beer.

Had The J. Henry Original Mild at Father Tom's Pub, Cookeville, Tenn., on draft into tumbler.
Pours deep, opaque golden-brown, with 1/2-finger very light-tan head, which soon drops to a partial film, and leaves a little sketchy lace. Sweet caramel malt aroma off pour, joined by a little very mild roast malt aroma and as warms some sweet, clean stone fruit and a little mild citrus fruit aromas, with the mild malt aroma continuing and growing. On tasting, begins smooth and creamy, with mild caramel malt, then a little sweet stone fruit, before the sweet mild caramel malt returns, leading into a nicely crisp, Noble hop finish.
After initially trying on draft from an apparently unclean guest tap line at a now defunct brewery, finally had a good tasting, confirming what I suspected: this is a classic, dangerously easy-drinking English Dark Mild Ale.

a medium colored mild ale, probably the best of the beers we had on our visit here, maybe just behind the dark earth stout. all the liquid was fairly pedestrian, but the place is awesome, and we had a great time sitting outside relaxing over pours of this one. its a little flat and hazy from the tap, without much head on it at all. smell is of classic english malts, a little crystal sweetness to go with the earthiness of the maris otter, a pretty traditional build here. i dont get a lot of english yeast on this, i dont really get much of a yeast complexion at all, but its simple beer, entirely grain driven, and drinkable enough at this lower abv. subtle notes of toffee, dried red apple, and golden raisin, there is a nice fruitiness in with the grain sugars that really defines this one. long slow finish, extended by the lack of carbonation and some of the residual sweetness, pretty good body though for what it is. this would benefit greatly from more bubbles and a little more complexity, but the beer is drinkable and fine, and when you are here relaxing, the beer itself somehow matters a little less...

Had on tap. I really enjoyed the toffee, raisin and biscuit aromas of this beer with a hint of a more american hop finish to the style. Taste I thought the hop was a little much for the style, go figure. The feel felt caught in between style, and didn't take on the soapy oiliness of the style.
