Served on tap at The Village Pub in Inglewood.

A black pour with a 1.5 finger tan head leads to an inviting nose of cinnamon flavored graham cracker, chocolate and coffee. Palate is medium bodied with a dark chocolate/molassas-like sweetness balanced against a coffee grounds-like roastiness- good robust characteristics tucked into the creamy nougat-like malty delivery. The bitterness is moderate, brings out some hoppy dark green leaf tones and lasts until the lingering dry black-malt carries the finish with a bit of roasty, acrid twang.

Definitely in the running for my favorite CK so far. If I want something easygoing I'll take the J. Henry Mild Brown Ale. If I want a bit of a kick, I'll take this Dead Earth.

definitely not retired, as this was on tap when we were in there. from a technical standpoint, it is probably their best beer, without any of the leftover sugar all the others had, way better carbonation, and even holding a creamy head while i drink the small glass. its very bitter and black, tons of dark barley in here and not a lot of crystal caramel sweet malts to balance this out, so its robustly dark and earthy and intense from start to finish, but its smooth in body, not harsh at all, and very low alcohol, drinkable for what it is, and would be really good with some of their house coffee blended in, if they dont already do that they should! it tastes like coffee already a little bit, breakfasty and roasty, and there is a woody element here too, like bark or something, very organic, simple but well refined for sure, especially in the context of their other beers. light black pepper comes in at the end, a cool little twist to finish with the bitterness. overall tasty stout, worth trying when you are in!
