Notes: Lagertha is our take on a classic Czech-style Pilsner. Brewed with traditional European ingredients plus American Mosaic Hops, this is a hoppy twist on a classic style. The beer is crisp, light and complex with hop-forward citrus and fruity flavors with hints of honey and biscuit.

This clean, crisp and refreshing beer is one of our favorites!

Clear golden body with visible carbonation leading up to two fingers of eggshell white foam that slowly dies down into a cap over time. Floral and grassy hops brings out notes of lemon and a hint of dry pineapple that accents the bready lager yeast and crisp lager malts in the taste. The nose has a lemongrass complexion to go with the lager base components. Medium bodied but crisp, clean, bready, lesser so malty, and hop bitters accent instead of overwhelming. This is wonderful, especially on the porch on a summer afternoon

Not a bad one. Wasn’t expecting greatness like opening a scene with Barbara Stanwyck standing there, but it’s also not some b babe. There’s grass and it has some citrusy hops like Watership Down.

That’s about it.

12oz can - poured into a willi becher at fridge temp.

Thank you bret27 for this one!

Pours a vibrant straw-golden - very clear, with just enough fog to partially obscure my fingerprints, and topped with two fingers of coarse white head with fair retention, receding to a loose collar and leaving spotty lacing behind.

Nose: Dry, crackery pilsner malt lends some clean toasty grain notes, with a slightly rounder malty note running through, providing just a touch of breadiness. The label says "hoppy pilsner" and that is definitely the case. The Mosaic hops are quite evident, as seen by the green, grassy, and ripe melon notes. There's also some distinct gooseberry and musty white grape poking out. Some interesting patchouli and incense notes begin to emerge.

Palate: The aroma gave me pause, but the flavour really delivers here. It's a pilsner first, with dry, grainy malt - a hint of toast, some flaky grain, and again, an underlying maltiness that suggests sweetness, but translates more of a white bread note. One thing I love in my lagers in minerality, and it just shimmer here - sparkly and bright. A touch of lemon, grass, and hay emerge, with a kiss of honey, until that Mosaic shows up - green and vegetal, with a hint of melon, gooseberry, and a subtle musty dankness. The finish is lightly bitter and resinous, with a piquant black pepper bite, some leafiness, and then concluding with that clean, crackery grain.

Mouthfeel/Body: Light, crisp, snappy, and refreshing. Lively, zippy effervescence, highlighted by that mineral water zest. Dry, cover-to-cover, with a bit of malty roundness in the middle.

Overall: Pilsners are hard to master. Hoppy pilsners are even harder. So many just go overboard, forsaking the pilsner spirit, and focusing on the hops. This maintains the integrity of a quality, classic American pils, while managing to find that sweet spot where the modern hops are on display, but they let the pilsner shine where it needs to. Mosaic is certainly unorthodox, but it works here, and it works very well.

Can from the brewery.
I was optimistic because I like The hoppy pils style, but then disappointed to find out it was mosaic (one of my lesser favorite hops).
It exceeded expectations however. Light, flavorful, delicious and balanced.

I’m a big fan of Enegren. Almost everything I’ve had from them has been super good. I had this one before, giving a pint a 3.75 on Untappd on Sept. 6, 2019 and writing, “Very good, which is bad for Enegren.” Their website described it as, “Lagertha is our take on a classic Czech-style Pilsner. Brewed with traditional European ingredients plus American Mosaic Hops, this is a hoppy twist on a classic style. The beer is crisp, light and complex with hop-forward citrus and fruity flavors with hints of honey and biscuit. This clean, crisp and refreshing beer is one of our favorites!” Mentioned hops were Saaz and Mosaic, and malts were German Pilsner and Melanoidin Malt.

Poured a golden clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white rocky-to-frothy head. Some bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled Mosaic, floral, mango, grass, hay, herbal and honey. More concentrated from the can with Mosaic, mango, grass and pilsner malt coming through. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted a tad better than the smell. In order got Mosaic, bitter floral, dry grass, hay, herbal, honey, Saaz, black pepper, grain and pilsner malt. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Yeah, still a 3.75 overall. Wanted this to be better, but it’s still just very good. (Overall - 3.75)

Delicious and easy to drink. Nice hop character while maintaining a good balance. My favorite lager since Firestone Beavo.

Bright, crisp, floral, citrus, honey, biscuity, herbal, and dry. Love the twist on old-school with some new school dry-hopping with Mosaic. We need more of this. Delicious.

On tap at the Surf 'N' Suds Beer Festival held at Carpenteria State Beach in Carpenteria, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, earth, grass, and slight skunk aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, grass, and hay flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty, refreshing, and easy to drink.

Serving type: on tap.
