The Big MeatThe Big Meat
Notes: This Bamberg-style Rauchbier is brewed with rich beech wood smoked malts and clean lager yeast. This beer has a big smokey flavor and is probably unlike any beer you have ever had before. It is the perfect pairing for a juicy bacon cheeseburger, big porterhouse steak, or sticky BBQ ribs.

The Big Meat from Enegren. Pours amber with a beige head. Aroma is slightly campfire, spice, and caramel. Taste is smokey, with brown bread - a nice starchy sweetness throughout. The mouthfeel is actually a little bit creamy. Light medium carbonation and medium bodied. Overall, a great smoked beer enjoyed on its own or with some BBQ.

Poured from a can into a Pint glass
Dark, brown with notes of red, less than 1fb of off white foam that quickly resolved leaving a fine effervescence.
Smells of smoked meat, some peppery quality, leather and a sweet, biscuit smell. The smoky notes increase as it warms.
Taste is smoky, acidic notes forward then balanced by caramel, toffee, salty almost ham like twang and ending with clean finish with the barest hints of smoke and a little tackyness from the sweet malts. Mouth feel is medium bodied, delicate effervescence giving it a smoother, mouth filling quality.

Overall - I thoroughly enjoyed this beer (and I hadn't expect to do so.) Goes great with a nice cheese (dare I say gouda), well hidden ABV) and the perfect complement to a smoked and pulled pork/brisket. I got it through the craftx subscription service - great find.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a dark brownish red with a thin off white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel and bready malt and light smoke. Flavor is dark caramel malt, plums, brown and rye bread and smokehouse smoke. A light tartness in the finish, with a lingering smokehouse aftertaste. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A fine domestic take on the rauchbier style, very similar to my classic favorite, Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock. The German version has a bit more deep bodied bock beer body, but this one is very close. The smoked grain flavor is spot-on and properly reminiscent of a meat smoker. Well done. I see that Enegren makes a lot of styles I'd be interested in and I'll check them out again in the future.

16 ounce can from Bottlecraft in Liberty Station, San Diego before COVID....returned to Edmonton. This version is 7.2% ABV.
Pours a beautiful clear dark copper amber/caramel colour with 2 fingers of off white/caramel coloured head.
Aroma initially muted but as warmed caramel malty with smoky, woody notes of a quality smoked ham.
Caramel malty sweet with toffee notes but quickly run over by a wonderful smoky, meaty flavour - caramel bacon, ham, a touch of saltiness balancing the sweetness.
Medium full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and an overall creamy smokiness coating the palate with malty smoky joy - could drink more and anytime.
