On tap at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a 1/2 inch dark khaki head that settles to a thin cap. Random dots and chunks of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, and some slight cocoa and coffee aromas. Taste is very much the same with a nice roasty bitterness that lingers on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a thick and chewy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good stout and my favorite of all the beers I was able to sample at the tasting room.

Meant to add notes on this one a while back, finally found them to add.

This beer was supposed to be the 2nd batch of the excellent Daniel Irons stout, but Turns out that one the brewers (Matt) left out an entire bag of Munich Malt in the brew. 55 lbs out of about 280 were missing, so hence, a Deviation, from the recipe.

Served in a 5 oz Enegren taster glass.

A: Much like Daniel Irons Oatmeal stout, the beer pours black, with a half inch of dark tan head.

S: Medium scents of chocolate, followed by hints of light espresso, roasted malt, and the oats come through on the back whiff.

T: Well, it's all still here, just not as strong in flavors. Layers of caramel, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate as the true recipe also had, just subdued, but it was still good. Slightly dry finish with a light and mild bitterness, balancing out the sweetness.

M: Light to medium carbonation, less creamy, and a bit thinner.

O: Still a good beer, but it was really an accidental success, since it had far less malt then the intended recipe required. Don't think this will ever be made again, unless there short on malt mid brew one day. Not biggie though, since Daniel Irons is an awesome brew.
