dark, Ratskeller-like atmosphere that reminds of a dungeon. Lots of dark wood and low lighting. Menu is extremely heavy on the meat. Plenty of Belgian beers but not a heck of a lot of variety within that category however.

Dinner with the Mrs.

Food was on point. Enjoyed the meat and cheese board, mussels, and frites. Definitely recommend the garlic mayo for the fries - very tasty.

Beer selection is quite large with most regular distro belgium style beers available. Unfortunately no westy, cantillon, or 3F but given the locale, I wasn’t expecting them. Still nice draft selections.

Service was great. Our waitress was very nice and explained all the different styles and even offered samples.

Definitely recommend going for food and drink.

Dropped by this spot recently on our way back home from a Founders event in Athens GA. The vibe is incredible, everything you want in a Belgian bar - it's in a dark basement - laid out well - neat bar and a wonderful selection of drafts and bottles. The food looked amazing, though we didn't try any - and the menu was very impressive. The bartender knew his stuff - we had a nice conversation while I drank some BFM. Next time I'm in the area this will be the first place I stop by. Highly recommended!

Great place, my favorite place to get a beer downtown...a little pricey, but that is to be expected

Visited on a Wednesday evening after 8PM.

Atmosphere: A classic cellar bar. Lots of wood, cozy tables, great bar, and just right balance of music and noise. Nothing too loud and the one TV which was on was mostly being ignored by those in the bar. About half the seats and tables taken over the hour I was there.

Quality: 90% Belgian imports and 10% American in the Belgian style. A mix of common Belgians and rare as well.

Service: Very attentive staff - talkative but not overly so and willing to talk and make recommendations.

Selection: Huge selection. Plenty of beers on tap (looked to be about 15, maybe 14) and a large bottle selection in the cooler and in some other places as well. Extensive beer menu available.

Food: I didn't try anything off the menu (my Gouden Carolus Easter was my desert) but it all looked quite good - nice mix of appetizers, main courses, and other food.

Value: Given everything I thought the prices were pretty good. My 25cl beer was $7, and at 10.5% ABV I think that's reasonable given the import distance that it needed to come.

Great place. Next time I'm in Greenville I'll have to sit down for a full meal and more than one beer.

Really cool venue. From the exposed beams to the beer taps that come down from the ceiling the atmosphere is just great.

The beer selection seems kind of limited at first, but once you start looking at the menu and realize that the majority of the beers are belgian (and the few that aren't are belgian-inspired such as Ommegang) you begin to get an understanding at exactly how vast their beer selection is for such a narrow niche.

All in all, if you want some great belgian food and an awesome belgian singel, dubbel, tripel, quad or even a sour or two... this is the place for you!

The Trappe Door, located in downtown Greenville, SC underneath Barley's Taproom, is a must-visit for any tourists or even locals. Being a local myself, I can't help but visit every time I find myself wandering the streets looking for the next beer to enjoy and review. They have an extensive, albeit pricey, menu that can satisfy any beer enthusiast's tastebuds.

Specializing mainly in Belgian and Trappist ales, The Trappe Door features an absolutely killer beer/wine/liquor list, and a multitude of meals as well. It captures perfectly the feel of a 'basement' Belgian/middle European pub, with open casks, tables made from barrels, open faced brick walls, and dim lights.

The price is definitely justified, as the entire staff (even waiters and hosts/hostesses) are extremely knowledgable about the selection of different ales, lagers, wines, and liquors, and provide excellent service. The quality of service you receive from The Trappe Door is unrivaled in the downtown area; there are more than 20-25 bars within a 10-mile radius. Having personally been to them all, The Trappe Door is the one that stands out in making myself and whatever company I've got with me feel comfortable, at home, and taken care of.

If you're here to sight-see and tour the city, I highly recommend you visit other establishments in downtown Greenville first, as you will want to spend the rest of your time here in this cozy little gem, enjoying the finest Belgian and Trappist Ales South Carolina has to offer.

As a native and long time resident of Greenville, SC this place is a welcome addition to the growing downtown beer scene. The atmosphere is awesome, located in the basement below Barley's taproom (with whom they are associated with), the bar has a wonderful old world, tavern and inn feel to it, tables made out of barrels, kind of dimly lit, long wood bar, complete with creaky hardwood floors. The service at this place is excellent, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable about their entire beer selection, which is extensive. The selection is based mostly around Belgian beers for obvious reasons, but they carry a wide variety of domestic craft bottles, and their taps are always changing with the seasons. The food is excellent, moules frites are excellent in any style, can't go wrong with the fish and chips, and the duck is incredible as well. I love this place, it has become my most frequented bar and restaurant in Greenville along with Barley's Taproom. Definitely drop by and check it out. It is well worth the slightly higher (relative to other bars in Greenville) cost.

This place was on my "must-stop" list when the family and I were in town for the holiday. Went for a late dinner with some friends. First this I noticed was the crazy amount of noise from this place spilling out into the street. Very boisterous place. Though the friends that we went with said they had never seen it that crazy before. Must have been the holiday crowd like me. I loved the atmosphere otherwise though. Designed like you're in an old cellar. Nice wood beams, lots of brick, and the lighting is dim. I dig it. The menu is excellent with plenty of options. I got the "Belgian" stew and loved it. My wife got a burger and that was great as well. Their extensive list of mayos is one of their trademarks. All sorts of flavors. I especially enjoyed their hot chili mayo. Of course the beer list is nothing short of amazing. My only disappointment was that there were no Quads on draft at the time. Plenty of Tripels, Wits, and BPAs though. I opted for a bottle of St. Bernardus 12. The service was excellent and they really know the beers and menu well. I will definitely be back to this place again and again.

[Note: My friend said they do an awesome lunch special that *includes* a beer for like $7 or $8. Can't beat that!]
