Bomber enjoyed in a pint glass

A: Strange cloudy funky yellow/orange with almost a light green hue at the edge of the glass. Really looks like grapefruit juice. Very little head but some lacing stayed on the side all the way down.

S: Bright pungent citrus notes--literally felt the juices start flowing in my mouth.

T/M: Very interesting--big upfront hop bite with citrus all the way with grapefruit and a little lemon but then as you take it to the back, a bit of a pine note. Not much malt. Really different from most IPAs but close in feel to a Heady. Light, dry finish.

O: Interesting--a rarity around my parts that I thoroughly enjoyed. Looks and tastes a bit like someone literally put juice in an IPA. Pricey but worth it for the experience. Recommended.

Its quite evident that the Swedes aren't simply content at imulating the hoppy charge that American beer makers dominated. They want a part of the game! And Fatamorgana proves that they are in it to win it!

As the ale opens up with a bright yellow orange-juice appearance, the beer is frothy and hazy as its body is flooded with yeast and hop residue and simply glows with a supple back light. And then its froth is creamy, cottony and sturdy as its tall column of foam is slow to recede and its lace aligns the glass with a webbing effect.

Bright aromas of pungent citrus and tropical fruit abound- white grapefruit, sourish oranges, lemons and mangoes all portray an under-ripened character that is both vibrant and lightly pungent, especially when the herbal complements of lemongrass and pine come out to play.

Savory with honeysuckle and light caramel, the taste kicks off with sweeter impressions. But as the hops set in, the sweetness is relegated to a plumper fruit role as the middle palate is dominated with grapefruit, lemon, orange, pineapple and apricot. Its middle medley is alive with the pulpy goodness of fruit juice, except that the beer finishes dry- bone, dry! Its late bitterness is clean, refreshing and highly palate stripping especially as the bold alcohols add spiciness to the flavor.

Malty-dry to start, the beer's creaminess is largely due to light residual sweetness and exuberant carbonation. But its sweetness is recklessly cast aside as the ale prefers drier tendencies as the ale plummets into a citrus and arid texture to finish. Even its dry warmth is as asset to the beer's reverent drinkabillity.

Fatamorgana is a highly fortified IPA that easily topples the balance that's expected of drier and hoppier ales. But is sublime juicy and ripe character is simply irresistible as the ale haplessly blends with the dreams and aspirations of better beers.

Gold with a white head. Minimal lacing. The aroma is booze and hops with very little else present to me. It kinda tastes fruity and malty with a nice hop bitterness. This beer tastes better than it smells. Not a bad brew.

UGH what happened? Last year this beer was the best dipa that I'd ever tasted! It even beat out pliny! It seems as though this new 22 oz format has created but a shadow of this beer's former glory.

This, and I really hate to say this, tastes like *gasp* it could have been brewed by *second gasp* SIERRA NEVADA.

OH GOD. THE TORTURE. THE HUMILIATION.

WHAT WENT WRONG?!

It used to be more hazy, with more lemon pith, stronger hop juiciness with less bitterness, an aroma to die for, and no soapiness whatsoever which this has in DROVES!

OK, I might be a bit extreme in my criticisms. Its still a great dipa, its just well... a bit under world class. It looks like it might have been filtered more (less hazy) and tastes like the hops might have been dealt with less... delicately. In any case this is almost an insult to one of my favorite dipas. It still has that almost saison quality with the slight spiciness but everything is just a bit off. Less balance, less juicy, less full bodied and flavorful.

Sorry to say that I was disappointed, I'll throw this out and keep my 12 oz bottle from last year in my collection.

Do try this however, it really is great, just not.... AS great.

If you have yet to try heady topper, just get this instead. I'm sure the price/availability makes it harder to get better reviews but this is just a great beer.

If this were being packaged weekly and out to the masses.... Oh baby

This is the best smelling DIPA I've ever come across.

Poured a cloudy golden yellow with a fingers worth of white head. The smell is sweet, a good amount of citrus, and some floral notes. The taste is extremely hoppy but not as bitter as you'd expect from the flavor. You get a lot of citrus and pine in the flavor with a good malt finish. The feel is a little thick which hides the carbonation. This is an excellent beer but very deceiving. From the smell and flavors you'd expect a different feel and bitterness but what they've done works well.

pours cloudy and not much head. almost unappetizing but boy is this DIPA fantastic. It starts with some citrus, then some sweetness, then finishes with a long lingering bitterness. It's perfect. At the price I paid for a 12 oz bottle I would expect a great beer. Good thing I had it before and knew what I was getting into.

Happy Birthday bottle of liquid gold from a good friend who knows my current roundhouse. Did not let me down. Right off the bat, I would buy this when I see it. Delicious.

L- Unpolished gold
S- Fruit/Citrus/Pine/Pleasant mustiness
T- Crisp pine leading to a bowl of tropical fruit
F- Clean with a dank pleasantness
O- Keep it coming, a high recommendation within this category. On my radar for sure

Probably the best double IPA I have ever had. It smells of tropical fruits and pine, and the taste is in the same note. Extremely well balanced and drinkable, with less of the malty sweetness or thickness in body that DIPAs usually posess.

Cloudy tangerine colour. Light hop nose, a little sweet, hint of citrus and musty. Well blended malts, floral and citrus hops, a little bitter and earthy at the end. Surprisingly crisp and citrusy for a big beer.
