Previously called Aon Pecan Mud Cake.

When I was 12 I dreamed of becoming a pastry chef. Call this a creative outlet for that dream, and a beer that set the spark for similar beers to come. Thick, rich and excessively decadent, this beer aims to bring back childhood memories. Brewed with aromas.

Brewed at Brouwerij de Molen in the Netherlands.

Bottle from Más que Cervezas, served at home in a snifter glass.
Almost black colour, small brown head that fades quickly, no lacing.
Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, raisins, plums, liquor cream, hazelnut (pecan nuts I guess, but I've never tried one), brandy.
Full body, sticky texture, no carbonation. Sweet finish.
Taste follows the aroma with notes of coffee.
A beast.

This beer is delicious, takes me about 2 hours to work my way through an 11.2 oz bottle. The cocoa aftertaste is great and the bourbon is well done. It's hard to believe it's 14.5% ABV, unless you drink it quickly in which case expect a headache. Clearly superior to many domestic stouts of this type.

Served from the tap in a flared pokal at Consume.

Pours a deep midnight hickory topped by maybe a finger of beige foam. The nose comprises chocolate syrup, mixed nuts, mild salted caramel, and a twinge of what may or may not be coffee. The taste brings in more of the same, everything taking a decidedly sweeter turn. The body is a hefty medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a thick-ish feel. A pretty tasty pastry boi, especially if you're into nuttiness and unrepentant sweetness.

330 ml bottle, as Omnipollo Noa Pecan Mud (cake is not mentioned on the bottle), brewed by Omnipollo at Brouwerij de Molen. Available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger, which previously stocked the Bourbon BA version. ABV is 11,0%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of roast malts, caramel, molasses, syrup, chocolate, vanilla, pecan nuts. Sweet and smooth flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, also notes of coffee and moderate bittering hops.

Shimmering black with a big brown head. Thick fudge crushes it on the nose, with nuts, caramel and roasted barley. Taste is much the same, nuttiness get larger with each sip bringing out earth and smoke accent to the giant dark chocolate fudge. Gets bitter over time with sweet finish, good for a few ounces but a whole can seems like a chore. Feel is chewy, thick, viscous, super heavy and roasted with sweet edges.

330ml bottle from Morrisons supermarket (£8):
Jet black with a thin, dark tan coloured head that fades to a patchy surface lacing soon after. The nose is sweet with milk chocolate, vanilla & a nutty aroma coming through then some darker fruits, smoked notes & sugars, all complimenting each other well. It's a little stronger tasting with dark chocolate & sugars initially, some milky touches do follow though with a bit of coffee then the same vanilla & nut flavours from the nose. It's very well balanced & full-bodied with some alcohol showing & giving it a warming, boozy finish that works well with the soft carbonation; excellent stuff.

look: half a finger tan coloured head which dissipates at a reasonable speed, beer is jet black, no light bleeding through whatsoever, ominously black.

smell: roasted smokey malt, caramel, lots of nutty flavour, vanilla, milk and dark chocolate, hint of coffee, lots of dark fruit, cherry and raisin, nicely sweet, most inviting.

taste: massive malt flavours at first, meaty and smokey but also sweet, caramel, lots of dark chocolate, lots of raisin, good bit of espresso, hint of vanilla, maybe a hint of honey too, big wallop of bitterness on the finish, chocolate flavours linger.

feel: medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated, thick and syrupy, lots of lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue, masks it’s strength remarkably well but still a lil warming of the back of the throat, still very much a sipper, perhaps a bit thin in parts.

overall: although this is still a very nice beer, it is somewhat of a letdown based off all i’ve read about it, although it is still enjoyable.
