Dark chocolate with a thin, dense, golden, dark brown foam. The head lasts a few minutes, leaving spotty lace on a Pretentious Beer Glass Company snifter. In the glass, this beer is black with no highlights.

The aroma is amazing, filled with sweet fudge, pecan pie, vanilla, and Cool Whip.

Unlike the aroma, this beer starts off surprisingly bitter, like Baker's Chocolate. Sweetness follows up to keep it from running away. Rich, fresh-baked brownies are followed by pecans, which lasts through a long finish. Warmth adds the reminiscence of a mudslide and toffee.

The beer is full-bodied with a smooth, soft, Jersey-cotton texture. Alcohol is present and far below the 11% expectation. Carbonation is soft.

Unquestionably this is a desert beer. I thought the artificial flavors would be off-putting, however, while noticeable, they were not a distraction.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, small tan head. Strong aroma of pecan nuts, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, coconut and roast malts. The flavour is sweet and malty, with the same elements as in the aroma, also hints of bourbon and oak. Liquid dessert.

Just like it should be: thick and rich.

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 7th July 2020. Poured into a snifter.

Appearance: It was black in colour with a half finger mocha head that dissipates quickly while leaving some sparse lacing.

Aroma: Chocolate, pecan, caramel and whisky with hints of vanilla and cognac.

Taste: Sweet milk chocolate with a nice pecan nuttiness. There are also hints of oak, cognac and peat.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate to low carbonation.

Overall: This particular bottle was nice and tasty, but I don’t think that the barrels improved the base beer. It should be noted that this beer has had it’s share of infection. This is my third bottle now, of which I’ve had two good and one infected. The infected bottle clearly tasted sour and was just not pleasant to drink. You will know if you have an infected bottle, so I guess it’s a bit of the luck of the draw at this point.

Pours pitch black with frothy tan mocha head.
Aroma has chocolate cake, vanilla , marshmallows, roasted nuts, cognac, oak,
Taste is oddly sour, might be infected. Still has flavor of cocoa, vanilla and islay whisky. But definitely off.

12oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark cola brown body, one finger white head, short retention and no lacing. Smell is a muddled peaty mess, touch of oak, nuttiness, a little milk chocolate. I'm not sure what to make of it, but it doesn't smell particularly appetizing. People have suggested this beer to be infected, I doubt this to be the case, but the barrel treatment clearly didn't work very well here. Flavour is peat, milk chocolate, nuttiness, a touch of butter, light espresso. Mouthfeel is medium-thinner bodied, good carbonation, with a weird barrel finish. This disappointed, and the barrels just didn't seem to work very well here.

Wow.
The barrel aging has done wonder on this beer. Even if the Islay or the Cognac ain't much present the complexity and the roundness of this beer are exquisite.
The pecan is there in the nose with chocolate. The taste is balanced between a good chocolate muffin with nuts and a nice hop bitterness. Everything complemented by a dry mouthfeel, a light acidity and a good astringency.
It's not as sweet as the original beer, it's a whole different beer and it's beautiful

Def picked up an infection from the Barrel aging, .... fucking shame, the first time I had this it was amazing
