Once a year, homebrewers are encouraged to send us their best brews. This time was the fourth time we invite a homebrewer to join us and Siren for a collaborative brew. Dave Strachan submitted a beautiful coconut Porter and so we decided to play along on that theme. Brewed with maple syrup and aromas.

Poured at fridge temp. A couple of chunks did come out of the bottle near the end. Pours motor oil black with no head. Nose is coconut, chocolate, maple syrup, roasted malts, dark fruit (blackberries mainly), brown sugar. The taste follows the nose with big notes of dark chocolate, maple syrup, brown sugar, raisins, blackberries, toasted coconut, and roasted malts. Some coffee notes come through as well. Quite sweet, and the mouthfeel is super thick and creamy. Overall, nice for the style.

look: one finger dark tan coloured head which immediately dissipates, beer is jet black in colour, no light coming through it whatsoever.
smell: i was nearly floored by the aroma when i cracked open the bottle, it’s just sensational, it’s smokey, tobacco, it’s nutty, oaky, hazlenut, lots of maple syrup, honeycomb, maybe some pine, chocolate, a hint of dark fruits, raisin, quite sweet, caramel, definitely a hint of coconut, marzipan, touch of molasses, so much extreme flavours yet it still feels grounded as a porter, possibly the nicest smelling beer i’ve ever had.
taste: a lovely beer, big malty flavours at first, lots of smoke and tobacco flavour, almost meaty, then the maple wave hits, along with the honeycomb and the molasses and the chocolate, it is however very sweet, caramel and toffee, the coconut is there too, raisin and toasted hazelnuts, lots of vanilla as well, big hit of bitterness on the finish which lingers, noticeable presence of alcohol, a big beer, a great beer.
feel: medium body, lightly carbonated, super dense, motor oil like, but strangely the finish is very smooth, perhaps a bit thin in parts, smokey flavours and bitterness linger on the finish but the maple evaporates quickly.
overall: still can’t believe how good this beer smells, and while it does not taste as good, it is still a top notch and exciting beer, very much a dessert beer. can’t wait to try more omnipollo beers.

Black with ebony reflections, little hazelnut foam with a fine texture and fast evanescence. Very intense sweet bouquet, maple syrup, toffee candy, coconut coated chocolate and light coffee and roasts. On the palate there is the same dessert path with the addition of hazelnuts and vanilla, the finish shows the bitterness and the acidity of the malt roasts and a light hint of hops. In the aftertaste the sweet character that is the soul of this beer returns to arrogance but to accompany it there is a nice alcoholic warmth and a bitter and ash tip that try to cage it a little. Medium body, soft and quite velvety, medium carbonation.

De Labirratorium. En copa Teku. Jugando a Ori and the Blind Forest. Perfil intenso a sirope de arce tostado. El coco apenas se nota. Algo alcohólica. Rica pero omnipollo tiene postrecitos más impresionantes.

Pours jet black with a thin coffee head that lives almost no lacing
Aroma is straight maple syrup. Like a pancake breakfast. Don’t get much coconut.
Mouthfeel is thick and oily.
Super sweet. Taste is heavy on maple with hints of chocolate. Not much on coconut. Still very tasty though.
Super tasty dessert stout. Would have liked a little more coconut. Similar to Even More Coco Jesus by Evil Twin but a little thicker. Definitely worth a try.

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with beige head. Aroma is cocoa, maple syrup, caramel and hints of coconut. Coconut much more pronounced in taste. Sticky and sweet. Lots of maple, molasses along with chocolate. Top notch excellent porter.
