Notes: Collaboration with Trillium Brewing Company

What do Swedes love almost as much as a juicy double IPAs? Apparently, David Hasselhoff as JC learned during his summer visit to Stockholm. Photos of The Hoff were plastered throughout the brewery for the collaboration brew, which invoked powerful memories of JC's 'favorite' Hoff photo... one where he is strategically "covered" in puppies. After sharing this photo with the Omnipollo crew, everyone immediately agreed this would be name of the Double IPA we were brewing.

Initially brewed and released as a draft only beer in Sweden, Covered in Puppies has now arrived stateside! The label design was inspired by Karl & Kevin's favorite artist when they were kids: MC Escher. Karl and Kevin were able to fully realize the inspiration from Escher and meld that with the respective styles of each brewery. A nose of tropical fruit and bubble gum take the lead with and woody resin undertones. Palate is juicy with flavors of creamy pineapple and freshly baked bread, wrapping it up with a soft -as-a-puppy bitterness.

Remarkably hazy, cloudy peachy orange pour with one finger of white head. No light getting through here - almost sludgy: aroma is hoppy over ripe orange, grapefruit, touch of sweat socks. Taste is hop forward thick citrus, some tropical fruit with a palate attacking bitterness that lingers in the full slightly dry finish. Most excellent.

Poured to an Ora et Labora taster.

A: Body is juicy orange, opaque. Head is white, dense and lovely. The appearance is really great.
S: Mango, pineapple, resinous profile, Citra, Galaxy, it's an incredible aroma.
T: Taste starts off a bit bitter from the resinous profile then turning to the almost tropical to citrus touch, finishing off in a clear resinous bitter profile agora. It ends as it starts. In a fluffy and sweet tone.
M: Body is medium to high. Bitterness is big but not highly strong - it's not super fresh. Alcohol is felt but just a little.
O: Of course, this collab couldn't really go wrong.

330ml bottle - so, this has something to do with David Hasselhoff? Why weren't hamburgers involved? What? Too soon?

This beer pours a murky, medium apricot amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent broken web lace around the glass as it quickly evaporates.

It smells of dank pine resin, bready and doughy caramel malt, a muddled tropical fruitiness, some damp minerality, and more leafy, weedy, and musky floral green hop bitters. The taste is juicy orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus flesh, grainy and bready caramel malt, still hard to parse exotic fruity notes, some stoney chalkiness, chewed-out pink bubblegum, and more earthy, herbal, and musty hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its palate-placating frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and mostly smooth, with just a touch of hop bitterness maybe taking things down a notch or so here. It finishes off-dry, the malt and mixed frootiness carrying the lingering day.

Overall - this is a genial enough version of the style, however, not quite as grand as the fan-boys I see now before me seem to opine. Could be another Alberta agent issue (oh, Craft Beer Importers, gee, really?), as the BB date is November of this year, for a big, hoppy brew.

O - A solid collaboration beer. The flavors are nice and juicy with a dank finish.

Europe version, 330ml bottle. Quite hazy orange color with off-white head. Aroma has overripe fruits like peaches and oranges, slightly fermented and boozy. Taste is hoppy, fruity, light fermentation notes, a bit earthy with medium bitterness on the finish. Quite good but it has some off flavors.

Canned 12/07/17. Consumed on 2/25/18.

Deep orange with a creamy white head.

Nose of tropical fruits (pineapple and mango), also some citrus notes. After reading the description, I do get a lot of dubble bubble gum from the aroma.

Creamy mouthfeel with a slight bitterness on the tongue.

Fantastic double IPA that I will continue to enjoy immensely. Thanks CUBANICHI!

This is for the version of Puppies brewed at Sigtuna Brygghus in Sweden.

Pours a hazy light orange with fine, thick foam.

Smell is juicy with loads of mango, pineapple and a bit of vanilla.

Taste follows the nose but cranks up the pineapple and adds a soft hop bite.

Mouthfeel is soft and pillowy, well carbonated.

Another terrific IIPA by Omnipollo. Can't go wrong with these guys.

Smell: First thing I'm picking up is a vivid tropical fresh fruit note. More specifically, pineapple and peach. It's a really fresh natural tropical smell. Fresh pineapple chunks and peach skin. Underneath the fresh tropical notes there is a citrus zest . Orange zest and tangerine tang powder. There's a little bit of guava, passion fruit and pine as well. The nose is tied together with a bold yeasty bubblegum gum note and a rich sweet white bread note. This is a nose that is really enticing my taste buds.

Taste: initial impression with the first sip is that the beer is really vibrant and follows the nose exceptionally well. Upfront your greeted with the fresh natural tropical fruit notes. Sweet pineapple chunks along with that unwashed peach skin. In the mid palate you get a big guava note that is more intense then the nose lead on. You also get a nice mix of orange zest and that tangerine tang powder that plays well with the rich white bread note that was prevalent when I smelled the beer. The finish is quite unique there is this delightful lemon-lime note along with more guava that is giving off this light dankness that adds a layer of complexity. There's also that yeasty bubblegum note that shows itself on the very backend of my taste buds along with some passionfruit that adds a slight tartness that adds even more depth to an already deep flavorful beer. There is also a light piney bitterness but it only makes a cameo appearance. That light dankness plays with the yeasty bubblegum and passionfruit in the aftertaste, before quickly becoming a fairly dry finish.

Feel: Medium body. With just enough creaminess to make this beer soft and extremely smooth. Well being dangerously easy drinking. Like I mentioned above the beer also finishes fairly dry.

Overall: This is the second best beer I've had from trillium. This is a lovely complex beer that anyone who likes this style would most likely throughly enjoy. This is clearly a world class beer for me. If you still have cans of this drink it now because it's damn near perfect!

16oz can dated 12/7/17.

Pours murky gold with white chunks and a full, fluffy head. Nice retention with rings of lacing. Peach, melon, grapefruit, and mango blast from the glass. Ripe, tropical, and juicy. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Candied citrus leads the palate with zero malt and a medium bitterness. Hard peach, mango, pineapple, and pear. Finishes with loads of tropical fruit and a hint of pine.

Great beer but not up to the level of their best.

This beer has a really nice glow to it, with some highlighted oranges and yellows. Head is fuzzy and firm, with 2 fingers of head.

Aromas of bright fruits - citrus, melon, and tropical. Coming forth in the way of cantaloupe, nectarine, tangerine, and pear. Behind that hides some chalk and faint diesel.

Flavor is explosive. Great fruit flavors mixing with an amazing balance of bitter resins and a gritty malt base. Mangoes, fuzzy kiwi, apricots, papaya, pineapple, and tangelo all come forth with resounding juiciness. The hints of resin, peppermint, pine, and slight wood all balance out the juiciness with precision.

Feel is soft and creamy to start, and then punishes the tongue with prickly, intense carbonation, and then subsides like an ocean tide to soft creaminess again.

Overall, this is a phenomenal IIPA. As far as Massachusetts is concerned, Tree House is a huge name that people go nuts over. But Trillium for me is honestly the superior brewery. Their variety of recipes seem to know no end. 80% of their stuff is just nuts good. This is another prime example. Will trade for/have again in the future. Wow!

L - Hazy, murky orange with two fingers of white head

S - Sweet citrus, dank bitterness, and some spices

T - Sweeter notes dominate, but bitterness lasts throughout. Hop juice, oranges, clementines, grapefruit, and a solid malt presence.

F - Full and creamy. No alcohol. Calm.

O - Another solid IPA collaboration. Not mind-blowing, but still good.

I can't imagine a fate worse than this as a person who is allergic to dogs. I just hope the beer doesn't make my throat swell up.

L - pours a dark brooding orange with a deep penetrating glow. Tiny floaties only increase the intensity. Not much head, but what does exist is sticky and creamy.

S - boatloads of candied orange and pineapple. Strong stone fruit and melon. White grapes and the slightest hint of olive.

T - intense and focused melon punch. A wee bit doughy. A little spicy, a little sweet. Tangerine and kiwi. Homemade bubblegum and gentle clementine candy. Overall very soft flavors that tiptoe around that giant 8.2% ABV.

F - soft and fluffy up front, then quickly peters out into a leaking faucet type mouthfeel. Just a few drops remain on the tongue as the rest evaporates out, making this way too drinkable. Scary.

O - I can't quite put my finger on the flavor profile, but it strikes me as more green without the bitterness, just the sweetness. Gentle fruit flavors like how satsuma is Pineapple Lite™️. Subtly sweet without being sugary (at all) or cloying. Nice and refreshing.

Pours like straight OJ, hazy with some residual lace and a nice white head of foam.

Sweet, tropical, passion fruit.. awesome aromas. Is this a beer??

Slightly bitter citrus to start, but sweet and awesome. More passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and sweet tangerine in the finish. A slightly dank finish.

Smooth, medium body. Creamy, but with a light effervescent carb that works well together.

Dive Bar, Worcester, MA.

A- Slightly hazy golden pour into a chalice with a creamy white head. A thick ring leaves a massive amount of thick blankets of lace.

S- Big fruity hops. Pineapple and tart clementines with notes of mango, passionfruit, grapefruit, dank weed, tangerine and sour apricot. A certain tartness somehow.

T- Dank orange and grapefruit juice blend. Mango, apricot, clementine, bitter citrus pith, juicy tropical fruit, weed passionfruit and big onion hops. A bit of cereal and wheaty grains

MF- Silky and creamy medium body. Frothy medium level of carbonation and a bitter citrus pith ending. Somewhat oily.

Another solid juicy, fruity IPA out of MA with a distinct pineapple, citrus and dank flavor profile.

16oz. can served in a tulip (thanks Mike!). Pours a hazy, burnt orange with a loose, half inch, off-white colored head. Great nose - tropical fruit (mango and guava) followed by biscuit malts. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of bubblegum notes and citrus pith towards the back. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a carbonation shy of prickly. Overall, a really interesting DIPA. Love the big tropical fruit flavors and aromas on this one.

Just got this in an in person swap the other day...can dated 12/7 off we go. Classic juice bomb looks if not a bit more sienna than normal...super frothy and foamy head leaving sheets of lace. Nose boasts tropical candied fruit. Taste sings a smooth crisp, dare I say brisk IIPA. soft and easy drinking...not boozy at all. Some resinous hop on the finish but this is really nice and light for such a ballsy beverage. Well done.

Can poured into snifter.

Looks like most Trillium DIPA, orange and hazy, whispy white head that settles and leaves clingy lacing. Head creates some floating islands of bubbles and an ample collar.

Aroma is fruity. Citrus, peach and pineapple.

Flavor is fruity hops, some grapefruit but a ton of peach and pineapple. A hint of earthiness that is herbal and grassy.

Fizzy carbonation, small bubbled, tickles the tongue. Just over medium body.

Tasty brew, one of the better collab brews to come out of Trillium.

Pour a trillium-orange, hazy body with a big frothy white head that reduces slowly to leave good lacing and retention. Just as an IPA should look.

Aromas are fruity and tropical, citrus and grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, pineapple, tropical fruits and no bitterness. Mouthfeel is easy, drinkable with medium low carbonation.

One of my favorite Trillium collabs. This is a real winner.
