Poured from the can into a pokal glass.
Mahogany dark brown with deep red highlights. A bit of snappy sounding carbonation and a creamy looking three finger tall top for the head. Slowly settles evenly with no lace, but giving to a thick cap.
This is a real varied and interesting aroma. Wood, but more like a wooded tree than a barrel, something you'd smell on a hike or in the forest coupled with touches of light cherry fruit and dark sensing malts. Light hints of dark chocolate and a faint touch of cream like sensations too. Quite interesting for a baltic porter.
Palate takes a bit of a turn. Really washing wet for both a high abv and barrel aging. Flavors come a bit watered down with touches of again dark chocolate and more of a rough dirty cherry flavor. Aftertaste is quite dry, and has a surprising amount of ash like texture and taste, nearly like a sandy pit. The aftertaste also seems to give a hint of burnt wood as well, going for this blackened out and watery flavor unfortunately.
It's not horrible and does have some faint hints of cherry and chocolate goodness. But some of the other characteristic just don't hold up that well unfortunately. Passable and easily drinkable, but sadly not memorable.
