Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Public Pale Ale is brewed in the classic American Pale Ale style. Assertive bitterness backed by C-60 and Vienna malts which lend notes of rich, yet semi-dry caramel. Then followed up with a nice white grapefruit and citrus aroma that begs for a follow up sip.

Pours a murky orange-amber with an average head. Aroma is of hop; sap oozing out of fresh cut wood would be a little more correct, lol. A touch of citrus also. Taste has bitter hops, a little different than the aroma. Overall, good flavor with a bitter aftertaste. Hops come through pretty aggressively. Nice carbonation and feels good going down.

355ml Can from Virginia, USA as a gift:
Hazy, red tinged amber with a 1.5cm, bubbly white head that leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass as it slowly reduces to a fine lacing with some build up on the sides.

Hoppy with some pine & tropical fruits, there is some strong citrus too & lots of bitterness. Grapefruit, orange & lemon zest come through with faint malts & caramel.

Bitter with plenty of grapefruit, resinous pine & tropical fruits. There's some citrus before some pale malts come through. The hops definitely come through most with this one & it's quite refreshing.

Very bitter with a medium body, maybe a touch lighter. Carbonation is good & it's quite dry, particularly at the end. I enjoyed the balance here & there was just the faintest touch of alcohol but it's a very drinkable beer.

Not a bad first beer from Washington DC, this one was very enjoyable without going down as a classic. The taste and smell were certainly hop filled & well balanced with the pine and tropical flavours offset by the pale, sweet malts which could have been stronger but were pleasant ones nonetheless.
