Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Penn Quarter Porter is our first in a line of draft-only limited-release beer, and it's a robust porter! In the way that The Public is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this is on the line between a porter and a stout - with chocolate notes and a dry, roasted finish.

Reviewing a cellar temp can poured into a snifter. The beer pours cola brown with creamy tan head of about 1.5 cm foaming up and slowly fading to a sturdy surface layer with some clingy tight lattice on the glass. Aroma is rich and malty with chocolate and some roasted malt and a little brown sugar. There is just a faint hint of dark fruit buried in the nose and I dont really get any hops. The nose is pretty big and appealing.
First sip reveals an average body with very fine carbonation that tingles across my palate. Flavor is malty and smooth with dark cocoa, roast malt and a bit of coffee notes. I dont get any of the dark fruit but there is just a hint of brown sugar that lingers a bit on the finish. The roasted malt notes also hang around, but no real hop presence nor any hits of booze.
An easy drinking flavorful porter with a good nose and enjoyable drinking experience. Worth a purchase if you like malty porters and a highly drinkable experience.

Poured from 12 ounce can into pint glass. Jet black, solid, opaque. Very little odor. Hard to detect any scent at all. Faint malt odor... As I drink it, I detect a slight toast odor... Smooth, heavy porter like molasses. Sweet, creamy, heavy porter taste with some hops balancing. Overall very tasty and creamy with a bit of bitter bite. More flavorful than its English cousins.
