Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Corruption™ IPA is DC Brau's take on a Pacific Northwest IPA. Brewed with Pale 2 row, C-10, Honey and Victory malts. Exclusively hopped with 40 lbs of Columbus hops per brew to ring in at 80 IBU. "The Corruption" comes in at 6.5% ABV. This beer straddle's the line between IPA and Imperial IPA and has a supportive malty backbone with an assertive hop presence that smacks your mouth with a dank, resinous bitterness followed by pleasant aroma's of pine sap and burnt spruce.

12oz can, served in a shaker pint. Pour is cloudy medium copper body, amber-orange hued, one finger white head, short retention, bits of lacing. Smell is caramel, grass and resin, a bit of floral notes, trace citrus zest. Flavour is a fair bit of sweet caramel, pale malt, floral and grassy notes, a bit of a herbal, leafy bitterness, touch of grapefruit and zest. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, appropriately carbonated, mild-moderate leafy bitterness that lingers a fair bit. Solid IPA, nothing mindblowing but reasonably well constructed.

Poured from 12 oz. can into Siegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, honey-amber color with over a finger of foamy, bright white head and extensive lacing. It was canned on 1/10/2018 and the nose is subdued and mostly malt. Little fruit or hop presence. The taste is similar. It's mostly caramel malt with a dose of very bitter hops at the finish. In fact, I haven't had many IPAs that open so sweet and end so bitter. Again, the taste may be impacted by the fact that it's 2 months old. This ale is moderate in carbonation and the 6.5% ABV allows for easy drinking. Overall, the dichotomy between sweet and bitter was jarring at first but it grew on me as I drank it. I'd like to try it fresher and on draught.

Stuck in Reagan National, ready to seriously lose it with the non-sensical delays. I mean, when it’s snowing sideways and the plan is for much more, how much discretion is left?? Cancel it, seriously, you’re not hurting our feelings, we just want to plan. All that said, it gave me the opportunity to sample a solid IPA from DC Brau: The Corruption. After one, I couldn’t have cared less about the delays or where I was headed. Just outstanding taste and color. Finishes strong like traditional IPAs, but not so much that you can’t taste the delicious airport fare consumed with a plastic fork. Lacks the citrus punch I usually like but dutifully did it’s job in a pinch. Would get it again. With or without the airport histrionics.

Solid IPA widely available in the DC area, dependably decent but not particularly special.

12oz can to 16oz Spiegelau. Pours darkish orange. Billowy head, collapsing quickly. Light lacing that fades quickly.
Smells like an orange malt bomb..little else. Taste is mostly sweet malts, orange heavy ..with very little hop or bitterness in the mix. MF is too smooth to be a straight IPA.

This beer might be old, but the date was unreadable.

Can is marked "Swampy 7/05/17." Not sure what that means but okay. Drinking this 4 months after birth, which may be a bit late for a DIPA.

Pours golden amber, slightly opaque, but mostly clear with no carb bubbles and no head but for a thin lace top. Neon orange is quite attractive. Aroma is slight pine and citrus. Nothing to write home about.

Taste is piney, citrus p front (pineapple mostly) and mango, with an increasing hops presence. Pretty typical IPA, and the IBU feels low here. They're reporting 80? I really don't feel that at all.

The 6.5% ABV is not there at all, feels more like a sessionable beer. Is it weak? Let's call it toothless.

An increasingly piney/ bitter aftertaste makes me want to call this a typical west coast IPA even though it's from DC. (Right?)

Had a cold pint on tap at the Tenley Bar & Grill when visiting DC last weekend. Nice head with beautiful citrus aroma and dank fruity taste. Loved this west coast style IPA and will definitely look for more.
