Finch's Pale Ale is a refreshing experience from the pop of the top. Its fresh and hoppy taste with just enough supporting malt makes it easy to kick back more than just one. Our late kettle additions of American hop varieties and dry hopping techniques make this beer one of our favorites. The citrus hop character balanced with a malty backbone creates a delicious, accessible pale ale that is sure to satisfy with every sip. Enjoy this pale with just about any pairing of your choice.

16 fl oz. can, with no apparent canned on or freshness date present. I bought a can of this from a local beer store before with the intent to review it, but it was clearly old as hell. I'm confident that this is a fresh can. My can lists a 5.60% abv rather than the 5.50% abv listed on BeerAdvocate.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours three big fluffy doughy fingers of khaki / tan colored head on top of a dark burnt sienna orange colored body with ruby & mahogany highlights. Some scattered cavernous lacing. Looks very nice.
S - Smell is of citric fruits: pineapple, orange, grapefruit. Although, I am getting more of a pineapple aroma than oranges, almost reminiscent of some American-Belgian style IPA's I've had. Aside from that, it is a very bready smelling beer. Some spicy brown sugar aromas begin to emerge as the beer warms.
T - Taste follows the nose: fruity pineapple, citric orange, lots of bitterness, and some sticky sugary malt. Taste doesn't really do it for me as much as I'd like. It has a sort of herbal dirty earthiness to it that feels out of place and distracting. Actual orange taste doesn't exactly shine here, if you ask me, aside from some citric acidity. As the beer warms, an earthy oak wood flavor begins to emerge, which is both intruding yet pleasant at the same time. Reminds me a bit of some of the beers I've had recently from the Mikkeller Single Hop series.
M - Goes down smooth and clean with a sticky, bitter, and dry finish on the palate. Some sugary apple skin and earthiness lingering on the aftertaste.
Overall, a fairly strange, unconventional brew from Finch's Beer Co. This isn't exactly your typical pale ale, and I'm not too sure how the orange peel flavor shines here, but this seems to be more earthy / oaky than anticipated. I'm at a middle ground with this beer; I'd recommend trying it at least once, althought I've had better beers from this brewery.

Poured from a pint's volume can, an amber-glowing vision into my glass with heavy head over two fingers' worth, which takes its time settling, ample lace. Slightly murky but not sedimental. Bubbles in minute measurement don't overwhelm with carbonation. The smoothness of caramel without its bite; enough hoppiness for an American pale that I find lacking in others so this is welcome. The label was too finely or obscurely printed that I missed it earlier: on the can it reads "Brewed with orange peel." Normally I'm averse to fruit-infused blends and honestly it doesn't come through here, a relief for me; possibly it would be a disappointment for a different conoisseur though. Very drinkable at less-than-fridge-chilled, for I purchased it at room temp and let it sit in my truck w/ 38 degrees air outside another 3 hours at the office before taking it home; flavors resonate well at this level and I must add that hint of sweetness isn't overpowering. Delectable and a nice discovery worth revisiting.

16oz can, Pours a medium amber with a medium slowly fading white head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet citrus and pine hops, pale malt. Taste the same as aroma with malt and bready notes, mild hops bitterness. Palate is a medium body, crisp with good carbonation. Finish is pale malt, citrus with pine and citrus hops bitterness for balance. Overall a good drinking pale ale.
