Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Threadless/Finch collaboration IPA is a balanced experience of both perceived hoppiness and true bitterness. It pours a darker amber color and finishes with a citrus flavor, and when combined, will require this to be the last IPA you ever drink! Well, maybe, we realize you will probably drink more, but the result of this recipe clearly evolves into a very balanced IPA. The grain bill on this big pale includes melanoidin and Victory malts. We hop it up before the boil starts with some Columbus first wort hopping, then add a bunch more for bittering.

A - pours a cloudy orange with a deep amber center. A fingers worth of bubbly yet quickly dissolving head.

S - aroma is lots of caramel malt base with hints of toasted nuts. tropical fruit esters add to the already sweet character. Mango, papaya, and pineapple all comes together with a touch of grass and a hint of tobacco smoke.

T- Sweet caramel malt which is busted up by bold grapefruit bitterness and sweet orange peel. Pine needles are abundant. Both flavors dominate and linger long after the finish.

M - lighter side of medium bodied. Creamy texture. Medium carbonation.

O - an average ipa. Gave it a bit of a bump due to the difference in nose and flavor which was a nice surprise.

16oz tallboy can poured into a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

A: Murky golden-orange color. Head formation is poor, even after an aggressive pour. Wispy and patchy lacing.

S: Mango, pineapple, and starfruit. Hints of soft pine. Sugary malt base of honeyed granola and caramel.

T: Pine resin is potent and bitter. Oily. Hemp seed. Lots of mango. Toasted malt base, suggestions of caramel too. Aggressively bitter and oily on the finish.

M: Medium bodied. Creamy. However, this is completely flat, and it kills the mouthfeel.

O: The can felt loose and under filled. Two cases were on the shelf like this, so this leads me to believe that there is a problem somewhere on the canning line. No carbonation whatsoever. This might well be a pretty decent beer, but the lack of carbonation really does kill it.

A- Poured from the can into a tulip with a dark orange-light amber body. Small creamy white head forms to about a finger high but only stays around for a few moments, poor retention. Head falls to a small cloud and ring leaving spotty lace.

S- Caramel and toasted biscuit malts at about the same level as the hops in a somewhat faint aroma. Hops are pine, citrus and some tropical fruits.

T- Hops lead the way here with a big pine, orange peel and floral feel. Some tropical and stone fruit hints as well. Caramel, toasted and biscuit malts provide a decent balance and backdrop, not just a hop bomb.

MF- Moderately thick body with a medium-high carbonation. Texture is silky and somewhat creamy and smooth overall. Finishes off with a nice bitterness.

Enjoyable but I feel like the malts are a bit too distracting at times and nothing really jumps out or stands out for me overall. Solid.
