Inconsistent head, but a thin blanket of lace appears after each sip.

Hoppy smell with a bit of earthiness in the background.

The flavor matches the smell. A bit high on the carbonation. Short aftertaste considering the biting hop.

Give me a burger, and Fascist pig. My wife can call me a fascist pig all day long. This is a big malty red ale with enough hop to balance the taste. Finch's has a more hop forward angle but the caramel malts balance beautifully in this beer.

This is my got to beer for when I want to sip on a beer for a while, watching a game. The caramel malts take the first taste, and the hops dry out the finish.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #70 (November 2012):

Reminds of some of the old school robust Red Ales aka American Strong Ales from a decade or more ago. A bit raw and chaotic but not so much that it loses its drinkability, love the fact that this is a “in your face” type of ale. Without a doubt this will take care of your hop fix.

STYLE: American Strong Ale
ABV: 8.0%
AVAILABILITY: Rotating

LOOK: Hazed reddish copper hue, sticky light tan lacing

SMELL: Pungent, hop resin, spicy rye, rose water, dates, minty, orange pith, tobacco, caramel

TASTE: Bitter, slightly hop astringent, pungent, chewy, rye spice, biscuity, hay, grapefruit, mint, fresh grass, passion fruit, quite warming, caramel, bitter alcoholic finish

A pretty solid offering. Flavor blends caramel and dark fruits like plums. A bit muddled overall but I like the flavor. More malt forward but hops balance nicely. Reminds a little of Rogue American Amber but more muddled.
