The 22 oz. bottle was brought over by a friend. The cap is dipped in what could be wax, a bit difficult to open and some clean up afterwards. I was hoping the effort was worthwhile. It poured black into a 12 oz. glass, the head lite, lacking the richness I was expecting. Aroma simple, I drew in more smell through my nostrils waiting for the blast from the 12 gauge stout, nothing but a whimper no complex aromatics. The first few swallows left the palette wanting. Where was the richness, the taste of dark chocolate, toasted caramel malt, bittersweet coffee? I splashed more into my mouth thinking my receptors for taste had missed something the first time, the results were the same. Very simple, as complex as a round stone. Hoping for better, this 12 gauge missed fired.. Cheers

Appearance- The beer poured a deep black color with a light mocha color head.

Smell - In the big picture, the nose is cinnamon and raisins.

Taste - I would describe this beer as chocolate raisin bread that shoots fire down my throat. The cinnamon does not overwhelm, but there a definite sense of spice in the back. The dark chocolate in the aftertaste is fantastic.

Mouthfeel- The thickness allows the burn to scorch the throat for a while.

Overall - As far as dessert stouts go, this beer deserves attention.

Dark black and chocolaty, velvety smooth with roast grain goodness. Higher ABV only evident with a little warmth. Nicely done! This one makes winter worth waiting for!

Type: Draft
Glass: 10-oz. glass
From: The Taphouse in Boise, Idaho
Price: $5
Purchased: Dec. 19, 2013
Consumed: Dec. 19, 2013
Misc.: 2012 batch

Poured a pitch black color with one finger of tan head when I got it. Uneven spots of lacing with below average retention.

Smelled chocolate, Jack Daniels, dark chocolate, caramel and faint molasses.

Tasted a little smoother than the smell. Caramel, chocolate, toffee, chocolate milk, dark chocolate and light coffee beans.

Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish.

So smooth and very good overall.

On-tap @ Gernika's, Boise ID. Served in a snifter.

A: Dark, opaque black body with a small amount of tan head.

S: Roasted barley, caramel, dark chocolate, hints of molasses and leather.

T: More darker/toasted caramel and chocolate; more sweet than roasted but not over-the-top sweet by any means.

MF: Fuller-bodied with low carbonation.

O: A decent drinker, a quality big stout without the bells or whistles. Alcohol is well-hidden.
