Hazy bright yellow color with a small white head that reduce to a film with a bit of lacing. Aroma is really fresh and fruity with intense citrus and hop notes. Taste starts tart and fruity with some citrusy, grassy hops in the background. Just a slight bitterness on the finish. Dry aftertaste. Body and carbonation are medium. Really nice one, fresh, tart and hoppy.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/14/2016. Pours hazy/cloudy golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big sour lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, gooseberry, guava, papaya, pineapple, citrus peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, light lacto funk, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, gooseberry, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, gooseberry, guava, papaya, pineapple, citrus peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, bread, light lacto funk, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate fruity/acidic sourness and light bitter/spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, gooseberry, guava, papaya, pineapple, citrus peel, cracker, bread, light funk, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, gooseberry, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/sourness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light increasing dryness from acidity as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic, and grainy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.3%. Overall this is an excellent sour IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/tropical hops, gooseberry, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the balanced acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

A: Poured into a tulip to a clear light yellow topped by a finger of dense white head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sourness, citrusy dry hopping and gooseberries.
T: Taste is a nice sourness with a lot of gooseberries, some earthy notes along with a little pine and citrus. This beer has a huge sourness throughout. Swallow is more sourness and gooseberries with a little more of those earthy and citrusy notes
M: This beer has a smooth and medium feel in the mouth. The level of carbonation is low and a little inadequate. the beer has s slightly oily and drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. The gooseberries really dial up the sourness and the dry hopping is pretty nice. Could use a little more carbonation but other than that it's really nice. Probably could be better categorized though.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2016, so it's a bit out of date. Hopefully this style holds up. Purchased ages ago from Trembling Madness in York. A collaborative brew between Buxton and Lervig, this is a sour IPA with added gooseberry juice.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned. A rich amber hue with light haze and intense carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a persistent surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of sour fruitiness with hints of lactic acid, gooseberry, mild citrus, subtle honey, faint floral notes, a touch of caramel malt and a lingering earthiness. Complex and nicely rounded - excellent.

T: Tastes seriously sour with fruity overtones. Notes of lactic acid, gooseberry, mild citrus, faint floral hints, a twinge of honey and an earthy finish. Bracingly tart, though virtually no bitterness to speak of.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and decent body for the style. Highly astringent; the sourness strips the palate. Aftertaste of sour fruitiness, lactic acid, berries and earthiness.

O: Impressive - despite the considerable sourness on display this is still invitingly fruity. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour meld sourness, light citrus, gooseberry and earthiness. Nice body. A bit too sharp to be a regular, but a fantastic effort. Deserves to be sampled, especially by sour fans.

Very unique and tasty beer. As others have said, the dry finish leaves you wanting more immediately. The gooseberry juice lends a great flavor to the beer.

sour ipa with gooseberries, a collaboration between to great breweries too, very excited for this one. pretty beer, its bright yellow in color with a soft hazy and a lazy half inch of patchy white head. very lively on the carbonation, and with a nice aroma of tart green not nearly ripe gooseberries and lactic sourness. it tastes almost like its made more like a berliner than fermented wild, with that hot lactic sourness, lemony and puckery, but a little bit one dimensional. i dont get the wildness here really, too clean to be funky, but there is enough acidity anyway. i love the gooseberries, i like them better green than purple as fruit, and this beer seems to capture that well, very tangy, almost astringent, pretty awesome. what lags for me here is the ipa aspect, this hardly tastes hoppy at all, maybe a bit of a tropical new world dry hop, but it certainly does not present itself as a hoppy beer. i like it overall though, there is plenty going on where i dont miss a more wild yeast complexion or bigger hop presence, but its not quite as interesting as i hoped it would be overall. good beer and fairly priced for what it is, but i likely will not pick this one up again. still, very distinct beer from a couple of awesome breweries, worth checking out, great use of gooseberries...

Pint at the brewery. Actually, this is a sour IPA, so it could be categorized under a wild ale as well (that's how it is listed on ratebeer.com). Pours hazy pale gold with very little head. Nose is lovely soft fruits, more fruit juice than citrus (sour is hidden at this point). Taste is sour citrus (pungently so compared to nose). Acidic but not funky well into finish. Brightly carbonated accents grapefruity sour. Overall, a really good beer that lacks the complexity to get it to the next level.

Hazy lemon yellow colour. Tart nose with slighty spicy and earthy hops and lemon peel, a bit sweet. Tart and sour, blended spicy hop body with lemon and gooseberry. Fruity and puckery, lingering lemon palate. Fizzy carbonation.

As with quite a few sour beers after a few minutes it doesn't look particularly great. Head completely dissipated leaving a hazy yellow orange body.

Great lime, lemon and gooseberry aroma.

Super sour puckering taste. The light carbonation coupled with how sour the beer is bears a resemblance to fizzy sweets.

Overall very refreshing and one of the nicest sour beers I've had.

Hadn't heard much about Buxton Brewery but having had this as well as a barrel aged imperial stout. I'll definitely be giving more of their beers a go.
