Appearance: Poured from the 2 liter bottle into a large Shumensko mug. The beer is a dark, clear brown with red hues, somewhat like a cola. Head was tan, one and a half fingers thick, and had poor to moderate retention.
Smell: Big malt profile coming out of this one, with molasses, rasted, and toast notes rounding out the greater part of it. There is a consistent underlying sweetness, like burnt sugar or something similar. A good smelling beer that lets you know what's coming in the taste.
Taste: Again big toasty and roasted malts throughout. A strong malt profile leads straight through to the finish. A slight tinge of smokiness comes in, and a sweetness like molasses. This is a big taste for a Bulgarian beer company known for their Euro pale.
Feel: Medium body with a lot of carbonation. Expected this to be smoother and creamier, but it's ok.
Overall: A great beer for Bulgaria, and perfect for sipping in the fall and winter. This one just came out this year, and it seems that Bulgarian beer is getting better. If this is a sign of thigns to come I will be a happy drinker.
