Dark brown colour with a reddy tinge. Espresso crema coloured head. Stout like aroma. Tastes of rich coffee, chocolate, bitter roasted/burnt malt and some alcohol. Thick, smooth and reasonably mouth filling. Satisfying dark ale. Hard to determine a style for this one.

On tap- Aroma of alcohol, paint thinner, carmel/choc, mollasses, roast. The aroma pretty much corresponds to the palate. The alcohol was less noticeable than i thought, quite sweet aswell, not too bad though, pretty simple, yet assertive enough i guess.

330ml bottle thanks to sinkas from the Australian BIF. Into a HopDevil shaker pint.

Pours like my Pepsi Max, not quite black a little reddish tinge around the edges. A finger of foam on top that recedes to a level just above film.

Smell is sweet, slightly nutty which surprised me. Then a fair bit of booze that covers the chocolate and coffee that is there.

Tastes like boozy chocolate, kind of like some pre-packaged chocolates from the department store. Some heat comes through and gives it a touch of rum of all things!

The booze and heat help thin this out, taking away from what could be a nice rich dark beer. Carbonation is pretty low which helps its cause.

Not sure what this is supposed to be, porter? strong ale? Suits a strong ale better. As a porter it is just too boozy for the flavour it exudes. Potential night-killer.

Pours dark brown with a large persistent white head.
Aroma of espresso, some roasted barley, but really quite faint. Some crystal as well. There's also a rubbery smell, like the sole of a shoe, not sure what's going on there?
Similar flavours, with light roasted barley, nutty notes, quite prominent sweet caramel and unfortunately, some cidery taste.
Too much carbonation for this type of beer.
Not sure what happened here, needs more roasted grain for starters.

330mL bottle thanks to Lukie. Unsure of the age, but at least 2 years.

Molasses pour with a cappuccino head of a little over a finger. Falls over a couple of minutes with some respectable lacing.

Plenty of dark fruits, with prunes, muscatels and cherries. Bit of oxidation, which is not altogether unpleasant. Cocoa and liquorice pokes through behind it.

A lot more liquorice and caramel in the taste, but still decent levels of stewed plums and woody dark fruits. Slightly plasticy at times.

Body is way too thin, which makes the flavours struggle to stand up and sees it fall apart a little.

Has some promising elements but execution seems a bit off. Doesn't seem particularly porter-y either, as there's very little roast.

Drank from my Duvel Tulip glass

A - Pours a deep Mahogany colour similar to cola in appearance, very fizzy head that is tanned and disappears in less than 1 minute.

S - Some sweet caramel coffee aromas.

T - Plenty of malts present with a lingering finish, no distinct flavours of note.

M - Medium bodied and carbonation.

D - Nothing special and lacks character.

Moderate head recedes to a thin off-white head, like anybody should. Decent retention as well.

Not a lot here as far as aroma. Slightly metallic. If I sniff really hard maybe some coffee. Or I could be sniffing back to this morning.

Tastes good! Malty goodness. The alcohol is not that up-front at all.

The umami kicks ass.

This is a very good winter-drinking beer. How come it took me two years to find it? and in summer!

a: thick, dark brown color, head quickly dissipates to thin lace
s: smells like a stout, which is what this beer really appears to be -- malts, chocolate & slight coffee
t: consistent with the smell - very chocolate-y with undertones of coffee, plenty of malts, plus more -- very nice taste
m: medium body that is smooth throughout, little bits of carbonation, but excellent balance in this beer
d: the appearance belies the array of flavors and body contained in this beer -- a pleasant surprise & i'll look for it again

Cola coloured with cinnamon-coloured head, nice and dense with pleasant lace. Looks good.

Smell is chocolatey and sweet. Lots of cocoa with touch of cake batter, peppery yeast and touch of coffee cream. Not bad.

Taste is a bit lacking with slight dark malt giving dark caramel, then develops cocoa notes with touch of rye bread and then some fresh banana on the back, just subtly. Bit roasty, bit brassy. Not bad but could pack more of a punch on the front.

Smooth, full mouthfeel, but not seamless with notable carbonation tingle.

Enjoyable drop, leaves me wondering though.

Bottle purchased from the International Beer Shop in Perth.

Pours a deep brown colour. Very certainly brown, with a clarity that lets you see the true hue. Body is fine, but solid, giving heft and slickness to the beer. Head is a filmy dusty white colour. Minimal lacing and only fine streams of carbonation. Looks good.

Nose is smooth and round, with a hint of sweet esters and very minimal roast character. There's a depth of character that suggest weight and complexity, but I feel the sweetness is just very slightly overdone, and needs a bit more grain or roast to pull it back.

Taste is much better, and it does have that almost cleansing roast bite to balance and strengthen the complexity of the palate. There's still a fair bit of sweetness to it, and it sits a little bit too long, but the balance is better. Touches of halva and nuttiness lift the palate on the back.

Feel is smooth and light, but the undercarbonation is noticeable.

A good beer, but a very slightly odd one. It's too sweet, to my mind, and it needs something more to pull it back. Nevertheless, it's a tasty beer, with a good deal of complexity.

Appearance - Black, 1 finger of head which disappeared too quickly.

Smell - Surprisingly sweet, mostly just roasted malts and alcohol detectable.

Taste - Not particularly strong for the ABV, but the roasted malts and the hops are very well balanced.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, smooth, good carbonation.

Drinkability - Pretty drinkable for the ABV.

Overall - Not one of my favourites, but worth a try.

A - Pours a jet black with ruby tinting at the edges, disappointing lack of head, just a collar with quick thin rings of lacing.

S - Coffee and cream, chocolate, dark berries.

T - Follows the nose with chocolate, subtle coffee, ash, blueberry, raspberry. Faintest warmth of booze.

M - A touch lighter in the body than I would like, moderate carbonation.

O - Nice and roasty, a couple of minor tweaks from a cracking Porter.

This is definately a very good looking beer that pours a dark cherry cola colour with some ruby highlights when held to the light with really nice vivid carbonation that slowly dissapates and leaves nice lacing,it has aromas of bitter coffee, dark chocolate and malty laced hops, the taste is very nice with big hints of dark mocha, malty caramel and finishes with a nice smooth finish with only a touch of alcohol at the end of the first taste,a very nice beer that would recommend.

No visible BB - from Slowbeer,

Pours Black 'n' tan. Two finger head screams out of the bottle on pour. Head hangs around, a little lace.

Aromas of chocolate, roast malt, cappuncio, in that order.

Taste is sweet and chocolate driven. A little nuttiness. No real hop presence on back palate. Not a big taste given the ABV.

Mouthfeel good and smooth. Light carbonation.

Good under the radar Aus beer.

Apparently a porter? Dark brown with a thin coffee coloured head. Dry stout nose with roasted beans and malts. Again I’m thinking stout to taste - chocolate and roasted malts, maybe a hint of licorice. Almost shiraz like. Reasonably dry and plenty of fizz keeps the beer lively. Porter on steriods perhaps?

On tap at brewery. Pours black with fast disappearing airy head. Light aroma of molasses and dark malts. Taste brings in some anise and licorice. Light body, despite the syrupy tastes, licorice sweetness on the finish.

A - Very dark brown with some mahogony tinges. Big fluffy beige head initially that settles to a thin whisp after a while.
S - Some roasty, coffee aromas. Some fairly strong alcohol wafting.
T - Roasty, coffee, chocolate, fruity goodness. There is a bit of an astringency and the alcohol is too strong for my liking.
M - Quite full bodied with a medium carbonation.
D - Tasty beer that is worth trying but for my money it's very stout like and there is better choices than this.

Clearish red-brown colour with no real head. Fair.

Decent nutty, roasty aroma with a hefty sweetness. Good.

Mildly roasty with fruity, nutty notes. Pretty good.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. I'd appreciate a silkier body.

A nice but ultimately middle of the road craft beer.

Appearance - 4.0
Poured two fingers of beige head over an opaque, near black body. As the nears the bottom of the glass it is revealed to be a reddish brown and very clear.

Smell - 3.5
Roasted, slightly astringent grain is the main aroma in this malty brew, coffee, chocolate and caramel are also there.

Taste - 3.5
Plenty of taste to tame the high alcohol, balanced towards malt with flavours of roasted, slightly burnt grain and coffee, sweet chocolate in the finish and just a little hop character. Alcohol is warming but not overbearing.

Mouthfeel - 3.5
Quite smooth, almost creamy, persistent carbonation.

Drinkability - 3.0
Not something I would want to drink a lot of, but definitely worth trying.

OVERALL - 3.55
Not my favourite from Bootleg, but I enjoyed this more than when I tried it on-tap. I wouldn't seek it out, but will certainly be continuing to stop by Bootleg every time I am in Margaret River.
