As AGB's go, this one is almost worth the daylight robbery at point of sale.

Unsure why others here are raving about the ginger aroma (?) The excess carbonation in the product made it very difficult to smell anything off the bat.

But if you do like a soft-drink style beer after mowing the lawn then it's all good from there...

The first taste is citrus (bush lemons), followed by a fiesty ginger tickle that soon becomes a pleasant burn at the back of the throat. (burp! How rude!)

Very refreshing but I suspect a whole 4 pack of the stuff won't pack enough punch to convince me it's worth the price.

If it was on tap, I'd pop in for a coldie or enjoy it with a Thai Curry but there are more cost effective options on the shelf if you already own a lemon.

The packaging was a little sad and brought me down with it. I spent many sips wondering what the Japanese symbol meant and hoping it didn't relate to the annual dolphin slaughter in Broome's sister-city; Taiji.

As guilty pleasures go Matso is up there but unlikely to occupy a regular space in my fridge.

Poured a pale yellow colour with no head. High carbonation. Aroma strongly but pleasantly of ginger. Taste initially of earthy malt which was a bit off-putting. This was followed by a biting and intense ginger taste. Light body. Long strong finish of spicy ginger – good if you like ginger.

Pale cloudy beige colour with no head. What you'd expect for a ginger beer.

Slightly funky with a big ginger kick. Really quite spicy. Some lemony notes.

Well hello there. Spicy and tart with a big dose of ginger and a nice nutty note in the background. Moderately sweet.

Light and crisp. Very carbonated. Almost an alcoholic soda pop.

Yes, it is sweet and fizzy but it is delicious. A refreshing and crisp ginger beer with kick.

Bottle: stylish 330mL brown bottle, stylish label also. A very nice package indeed.

Appearance: pale straw with little or no head. Standard for a ginger beer, but this looks nice and crisp.

Aroma: wow, that's a good dose of ginger! Nice clean aroma with a tiny bit of funk behind it.

Taste: a simple yet refreshing Ginger Beer. Not much else comes across in the flavour, and neither does it have to.

Aftertaste: dissipates quickly, however not too much of a problem as it is quite sessional.

Mouthfeel: good carbonation carries the flavour well. Very easy to drink, which is a problem considering the price.

Overall: a nice ginger beer - reasonably simple but carries a nice flavour. This is the first beer from Matso's I actually like. There is, however, one colossal problem. It is AU$95 a case from the brewer. That's from the brewer, in case anyone missed that. That is an absolutely absurd price for a 3.5% ginger beer. I will gladly avoid this in favour of Bundaberg's Ginger Beer any day of the week. What was Matso's thinking?? edit: just as good in the can. And the price has come down (thankfully).

This pours a cloudy lemon colour with no head.

On the nose? Well funnily enough I'm picking up hints of ginger. Actually that's understating it a bit as when I popped the lid it was like somebody jumped out of the bottle & shoved a piece of ginger up my nose. Full on.

The taste is the same except there is some sweetness as well.

Light to medium bodied with a bit of cloying sweetness.

Not a fan of this style but this one isn't too bad.

Pours cloudy pale, pale, straw, no head (or at least it faded in a split second.)
Nose shows lots of sugary ginger (like crystallised ginger) with little else really. Maybe some lemon.
Flavours pretty similar, ginger and lemon with an unpleasant carbonic bite later.
Feels a little watery.
Too much ginger!

Shared with heygeebee Junior. He is still learning....

I don't normally go for this style - must admit.

Pours a light straw fizzy one finger head - cloudy. Aromas of some ginger. Sweet.

Taste is all sweetness, and a ginger kick.

Fizzy - is it really beer?
