Can, tasted 2 January 2015. First beer of the new year! And my first beer from Castle Danger, as I've been unable to visit on my few trips to the North Shore.

Pours a clear golden orange. Nice column of bubbles in the center. One finger of white head. Good retention, pretty lacing.

Smell is sort of warm and lightly fruity, with a little bit of citrus. Some nice sweetness. Feels very golden. Has these tones of a Belgian golden ale, that sweet fullness I expect from them. Quite nice.

Taste is clean, mildly bitter. A touch of off bitterness towards the end. Has that Belgian golden yeasty flavor, though I think it's coming from a unique hop combination. Rather bitter finish (more than I thought I'd find there). Pretty good.

Feel is good. Medium-light body but quite mouth filling. Carbonation is a little on the low side. Lasting, turning bitter and sticking it out.

A mostly clean (though I do get some off stuff in the back), lightly fruity, sort of Belgian yeasty, golden-y ale. Tasting it blind, I'd probably peg it as a Belgian IPA. I like it.

from a can to a beer tulip
look; amber golden, thick 1'2" head with a couple minutes retention and moderate lacing, not light but clear, visible carbonation
smell; funk, some citrus, pepper, other spice, caramel and bready malt, don't know what the funk's about (and it pains me to say that)
taste; delicious spicy hoppy malty balance. grapefruit, passion fruit, pine, with caramel and sugar right behind it with a pepper cinnamon little kick, a little rye...
feel; smooth, moderate carbonation, medium body, barely leans toward dry on the finish
overall; a deliciously spicy (not in any way overbearing) nicely hopped (not too hoppy)pale ale with a nose that's too busy (but not strong) for me or maybe that just doesn't come together well

Serving glass: Poured from can into IPA glass.

Appearance: Rich gold with foamy, thick white head and pretty good lacing.

Smell: Tangy citrus of grapefruit and orange. Some spice and caramel too.

Taste: Very tangy hop profile that has tart, bitter and sweet elements at the same time, kind of like Lagunitas' higher abv beers. I taste grapefruit, orange, some tropical notes and a light spiciness. Significant malt backing of caramel and toast. As the beer warms, the caramel takes over a little too much.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, nice dry finish.

Overall: This is a nice standard APA.

Pours a mostly-clear, orange/gold colour. Smells like orange peel, tangerine, citrus-hops, and light malts. Tastes like it smells, light malts, biscuits, oranges, tangerines, and citrus-hops.

L: Pours hazy gold with a 2” white to cream colored foam collar that is persistent and lacy.
S: Minty hop aromas with biscuit and fruit.
T: The flavor profile includes biscuit, nuts, light citrus, melon, and orange with a drying bitter finish. The malt presence is average and the hop flavors and bitterness are slightly above average. F: Creamy medium body and carbonation.
O: While a little too much alcohol to be truly sessionable, this is a refreshing and easy to drink American Pale Ale with big character.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big two finger off white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: An earthy and juicy hop forward aroma with hints of citrus and caramel malt. Citrus hop hints of grapefruit, orange, and pineapple along with some peach. Earthy and floral hop hints with some grass. Pale malt with hints of caramel, biscuit, grains, and yeast. A solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely juicy and earthy hop forward taste with notes of citrus and caramel malt. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, and lemon. Floral and earthy hops with some notes of grass. Pale malt with notes of caramel, grains, biscuit, and yeast. A solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and pretty smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A solid juicy take on an American Pale Ale. Nice mix of hop flavors with a solid malt backing.

Gave this a 3.75 from an on-tap pour, probably give it a solid 4 from a can. Very aromatic with a dank, apricot, pineapple smell and taste come through. The body still needs work and allowing some residue sugar come through would not necessarily be a bad thing with this beer.

Definitely not one of my favorites. Drank it from the can (not a good idea). Gave off a rather tinny smell and a bitterness that stayed with it throughout the whole drinking experience. The actual taste was not all that bad.

12oz can from Justdoit1234 (thanks man!). Canned 11/30/16. Served in a Wicked Weed snifter.

Pours a muted, hazy darkish orange with about a three quarter finger cap of pale froth. The head settles to a bubbly haze and full halo, leaving a nice band of lace where the initial pour rested but little else.

Smells of old oranges, lemon, bread, pine, grass and a little biscuit. Not bad at all but also not particularly inspiring.

Flavor kicks off with mildly bitter overripe oranges and is fleshed out with grass, crusty toast, citrus zest and a little pine. Like the nose, the taste is not offensive but for my tastes there is nothing that makes me want to return for more.

Medium body with moderate carbonation and a hop bready finish.

Castle Danger's 17-7 is a straight up pale ale. I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid it but it also not something I crave any more of.

Amber color; 1 inch off-while head. Fades at a moderate pace with disconnected lacing. Aroma is a bit faint, but pleasant. Not a lot of carbonation; about what you would expect for a traditional pale. Bitter initial taste that remains through to the aftertaste. The bitterness is moderate, and a straightforward hops bitterness with no resin or citrus taste. Good malt backbone, slightly sweet. Basically, a nice, traditional pale ale taste and bittering.

This is a more hop forward pale ale. Tasty combination of pale malt and hope varieties. Delivered grapefruit, orange, lemon and other citrus notes. Very pleasant and sessionable summer beer.
