Thought this was surprisingly good. I was worried that the maple might be too sweet or too strong, but, no, the maple harmonizes beautifully with the more bready malts you'd expect from a marzen. Nothing too complicated...it just all adds up to a really nice seasonal beer, a great fit for when the seasons are really turning.

i loved this beer, and while im not sure the base marzen is among the best out there, i think the addition of maple really makes it, and this is something i just loved, and it lived up to my high expectations for it. it should have happened a long time ago, maple syrup makes sense in this malt driven fall style, why have we not seen this before? at least i dont think i have... a little darker in color than a lot of oktoberfest types, pretty deep amber color with a short lazy white head. aroma is as sweet from the grain as it is from the maple, earthy and rich and honest. its a little sticky feeling, with the maple and the malt sugar lingering long, its awesome, super autumnal, and still authentically german in nature. its not too much maple that it overtakes the fundamentals of the style and the base beer, and the lager yeast does its job admirably here. clever beer, there is an obvious synergy between this grain complexion and style overall, and good maple syrup, and i think these guys have done a nice job showcasing that in a really unique take on a seasonal classic. this is delicious fall beer!
