On tap at the brewpub in Eureka in July 2014; revisited and revised upwards with a full bomber bottle in Dec. 2014, bt leaving a slighly lower rating that the botle itself generated.

Pour is a hazy, medium amber. Decent head and sticky lacing.

Aroma: slightly boozy; ssweet with hints of dark and soft fruits.

Flavor: Medicinal alcohol esters had a strong negative effect on the fresh sampe but were largerly gone in the older bottle. Some dark and soft fruit flavor, Largely true to Trappist style: the Trappist yeast shines here. Good balance, being slightly more sweet than bitter. Moderate complexity.

Feel: medium-full bodied with medium-light carbonation level. Hot, even for 9% when fresh; normal warming in 'aged' bottle.

O: Originally produced a poor rating but I noted that "this should improve with age". It did and is now readily recommended.

Cloudy amber color withnice fizzy and decent lacing. Aromas of dark fruits and some stone fruits. Lots of sweet malts, yeast and some citrus and raisins in the taste. Also getting some dry spice, cardomon, clove. Finishes relatively clean

I'm not a huge fan of Tripels but I found this to be a subtle, yet enjoyable beer. It starts with the tell tale yeast flavors of a Belgian and then moves to more clovey. Light peppercorn subsides to a bubblegum sweetness before it ends with with a light fruity banana.

Enjoyed from a bomber, this fine Belgian dark pours a hazy brownish orange with a nice thick off white head that dies down to pooling thin foam and light lacing. Nose of figs, dark plums, orange zest, and brown sugar. Flavors are sweet malts up front with warming alcohol, orange flavors to the sides and dark fruits to the back. Nice mouth feel, moderate carbonation, and a nice malty aftertaste makes this a fine example of the style done right in America.

Cheers
