Style: Oatmeal Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Eight Ball Stout is not for the faint of heart. It’s bold as hell and robust as can be, but it’ll reward your palate like no other stout. Roasted malts and heavy hops give it a flavor that will have you pouring another before you’re even finished with the first.

A chocolaty and smooth texture. Very drinkable and very tasty. Kind of a basic stout, with nothing too terribly unique standing out, but a solid example of the style.

BOD 2/18/14. Pours pitch black. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing.

Typical nose of chocolate and roast.

Medium body with a smooth texture that has some slickness. Slightly above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice prickly burst in the finish.

The flavor profile is moderately intense, not complex but is well balanced. It is a mild roast and chocolate blend from start through the finish. The middle brings a mild bitterness coupled with a mild malt sweetness. The finish is a slow fade of roast and chocolate. A good stout.

Another rock solid beer from Lost Coast. 8 Ball is reasonably priced, full of great chocolate, malt, and coffee flavours, and very easy on the palate. I would happily seek this out again and again.

Pours a dark brown almost black color with tan head. Roasted malt and cocoa on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with strong over roasted notes.

Appearance: Dark, Foamy Head that dissipates into a creamy top.
Aroma: Malty, Roasted. Makes me think of cinnamon crunch...without the cinnamon.
Flavor: Slight coffee taste with a malty pale ale background
Mouthfeel: It's okay, nothing to shake a stick at. Slightly carbonated, far from the smoothness of say a Guiness.
Overall: I'm slightly biased, I'm not a huge straight black coffee drinker fan. Coffee is good, but I like the coffee to be smooth...the same for this. Overall, I'll drink more of this one (slightly because I have a 6 pack)

12oz bottle, no date. Pours somewhat hazy brown with a medium sized khaki head. Smells of roasted malt, oats, and earthy hops. The taste follows with hops, roasted malt, and oats; lower intensity and straightforward. Light bitterness, dryness, and tartness. Somewhat thin body and average carbonation. Overall, it's a very unique Oatmeal Stout, but isn't particularly desirable with its strong hop profile and light tartness. There are better options on the shelf.

Black pour into SAPP, creamy tan head and thereafter good lacing. Whisper of roasted malt. Cereal and semi sweet malt. Lite mouthfeel. Overall, ok.
