Style: Oatmeal Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Eight Ball Stout is not for the faint of heart. It’s bold as hell and robust as can be, but it’ll reward your palate like no other stout. Roasted malts and heavy hops give it a flavor that will have you pouring another before you’re even finished with the first.

L -- Pours dark drown/black with a creamy tan head. Head disappeared quickly despite an aggressive pour.

S -- Roasted malts starting off. Coffee comes out with warmth, very minor sweetness.

T -- First sip is lots of roast and coffee, slight cocoa. A bit of bitterness at the end.

F -- Medium, smooth, but a bit thinner than hoped for.

O -- Overall pretty good. Very easy drinking and would make for a good morning beer with the coffee flavor. Pretty good value for the price.

A very well done stout. Nice chocolate and coffee flavors give it a solid base.

A chocolaty and smooth texture. Very drinkable and very tasty. Kind of a basic stout, with nothing too terribly unique standing out, but a solid example of the style.

BOD 2/18/14. Pours pitch black. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing.

Typical nose of chocolate and roast.

Medium body with a smooth texture that has some slickness. Slightly above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice prickly burst in the finish.

The flavor profile is moderately intense, not complex but is well balanced. It is a mild roast and chocolate blend from start through the finish. The middle brings a mild bitterness coupled with a mild malt sweetness. The finish is a slow fade of roast and chocolate. A good stout.

Another rock solid beer from Lost Coast. 8 Ball is reasonably priced, full of great chocolate, malt, and coffee flavours, and very easy on the palate. I would happily seek this out again and again.
