Well, color me happy. I am *not* a fan of fruity beer, and this bottle hung around in my cellar for a good long while before I opened it. The only reason I bought it in the first place was that I was quite impressed with Lost Coast's 8 Ball Stout.
But here's a message to all you skeptical BA's out there -- don't be put off by the raspberry!
You can tell right from the first sniff that the fruit isn't going to be too obnoxious. The raspberries in the aroma smell almost chocolate-dipped, and the malt balances out the tartness of the fruit quite nicely. The rich, opaque color of the brew and its thin light tan head also bode well for a beer with some real *substance* to it.
The flavor starts of with a gently sweet malt. Raspberry flavors peak right in the middle, but are quickly superceded by a slight nutty, roasty malt flavor. There's a nice bitterness to the finish also, which leads off into a mellow hint of chocolate and only a faint remembrance of raspberry on the tongue.
I've gotta say, this is a terrifically well-crafted beer. The sweet, slightly tart raspberry flavors are there, but they play only a supporting role in a beer with a really solid brown-ale foundation. Damn good stuff.

Bottle from Winco. Pour is dark brown, spotty head. Aroma is raspberries, more candy than fruit. More raspberry candy in the taste, along with a nice drying feel from the brown ale. Not as sweet as you might guess from the aroma. Thin mouthfeel.

I'm not a big fan of "fruity" beers, but I liked this.

LOOKS: A slightly hazy reddish brown with a finger+ of khaki head that lasts, and leaves some mild lacing.
AROMA: Malty and raspberry sorbet.
TASTE: I think this a bit past it's prime, 'cause the raspberry flavor is really weak, the malt is very mild, as well.
FEEL: A bit watery, just not a lot of body, here. Average carbonation, and pretty dry.
OVERALL: Weak, and totally forgettable.
