Notes / Commercial Description:
Twisted X Premium Lager by Twisted X Brewing Company is the foundation of the Tex Mex Beerâ„¢ sensation, featuring a subtle, hoppy flavor with a refreshing finish, perfect for fighting the Hill Country heat. That hint of Mexican lager flavor comes from the Richardson Farms yellow corn sourced from right here in Central Texas. Twisted X Premium Lager is a crisp, craft-quality beer that clocks in at 5.1% ABV, leaving a refreshingly clear finish and bright flavor after every sip.

On-tap at the Dig Pub in Cedar Park, TX.

Served in the pint glass with nary an inch of foam. White head settles all too quickly atop a clear, brassy-golden body with slight trickles of carbonation. Aroma is good for the style, with a dash of fruitiness complementing a slight cereal malt note and a hint of grassy hops.

The flavor starts cleanly, with a crisp bitterness from the hops and subtle hints of dried fruit. Light body could stand to have more carbonation. Not as cereal-dominated as some lagers, which I liked, but there was a strange bite on the back end of this beer that I couldn't quite put my finger on. A bit medicinal, but not bitter; a bit sharp and pungent, but not fruity enough to suggest it was a yeast ester. Still, this made for an easy drinking Light Lager on a 100F+ Austin day.

Sweet, Grainy, Corn, Citrus

Twisted X lager is a brilliant pale golden color with a fluffy two-fingered head. Soft cereal grains in the nose give way to a first sip that is grainy with a dominant sweet corn flavor. Light on the palate, but smooth and creamy. Then the hops come to play with some herbal and slightly juicy citrus rind notes. Dry and crackery in the finish. Overall, this is a very clean and crushable beer. If I lived in Texas I'd be flipping my macro beer-drinking friends onto this newcomer.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #105 (October 2015).

$4.50 pint

There's an interesting sharpness, almost like sourness, at the outset of this beer. It's citrusy like lime. Beyond that it's just a basic sweetish golden malt. Apparently it's made with corn but I don't find that. It's balanced, crisp, and easy to drink.

Appearance: Pale, faintly hazy yellow in color, with a moderate, dense white head, which fades only slowly. Thick sheets of largely unbroken lacing adorn the glass walls. The sparse carbonation drifts lazily to the surface.

Aroma: There is a light tropical fruit note out front in the aroma, there are also lightly toasted pale malt notes, like fresh white bread lightly seared, and mild, yet prominent floral hops.

Taste: Opens with crisp pale malt, and abundant floral hops. As the taste progresses, mildly earthy hops rise to dominance over the lightly-toasted pale malt, vanquishing any residual malt sweetness. The hops linger on, well past the finish of the taste.

Mouth feel: Smooth and soft, fairly full, with a bit of stinging carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Not bad, certainly would be refreshing during the oppressive summer days to come. Twisted X would pair well with classic Tex-Mex cuisine.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Clear straw colored pour with a small white head. Aroma of grain and light lemon. Flavor is on the fruitier side following the nose with grain and lemon dominating the flavor. Also, has some hints of biscuit and citrus. Light body and medium carbonation. Finishes dry and crisp.
