Decent little corner bar with a dank vibe. Not an area of the city I frequent often, and there's not a whole heck of a lot else to do around there. You can tell there's a regular clientele here, so you get all your regular macro beers, but there's also a pretty good craft selection. Some nice barrel-aged guys on when I was there. Service is laid back, but fine. I got there around late-lunch time, but unfortunately the kitchen didn't open til 2. Not really a huge problem, just gave me an excuse to walk over to Gooey Louie's afterwards. Again, there's not much else going on in this hood, but if you find yourself in the area and need a drink, check this place out.

Another neighborhood corner bar, but in a hip a neighborhood. Extensive selection of taps and bottle, something for every taste. Food not bad either, good beer/nosh combos abound. Didn't leave disappointed, just full.

I guess we were doing some business around Pennsport, probably Target or what not, and I mapped this joint and we went in for a beer or two. 2nd Street Brewhouse is a very dark, very neighborhood-y jawn, classic Philly. Lots of locals, working-class folks, dim lights and (unlike in the hipster joints of modern Philly) warm, friendly service.

14 beers on tap, $5.50 on average. Old Numbskull, Breakfast Stout, Heavy Seas Greater Pumpkin, Union Jack, Cocoa Fuego, Dogfish Pumkin, Breakfast Stout… I was happy to find the Greater Pumpkin, an awesome bourbon-barrel pumpkin brew!

We got the grilled cheese sandwich from the food menu, delicious and big at only six dollars. Next time I’ll get the vegan tacos…

Great jawn!

Stopped by here on a recent run of many spots in Philly.

Outside, 2nd street brew house looks like your typical beer bar. Some bottles and neons in the window with some specials on a chalkboard right outside the front door. Seems like a pretty stable neighborhood, I am not that familiar with S. Philly. Inside, the room is pretty small and quite crowded, It's basically the size of a Philly row home basement. Some small tables to the right, a small section of walking space leading into the bar area that seats 10 or so to the left. Keep walking back a few steps there is a separate bar area that is semi private and seats 4 or so. Some small tables if you keep walking and than you hit the bathrooms which were very clean and spacious surprisingly. Kinda reminds me of the set up at Wishing Well. A small TV in the bar area, two in fact with a few coolers full of BMC, Craft, Locals, and some other alcoholic beverages. Some bourbon seen along the wall. On top of the coolers were empty DFH and Yards cases with some trophy bottles making up the decor, including an empty CBS bottle. Huge beer chalkboard with the draft and bottle selections, I think there are 12 or so on draft. I had a Speedway Stout and a Nugget Nectar during my stay. Prices were nice and not as high as other bars in the area. 2nd street is a bit off the beaten path though. I met the owners, I think they are a wife/husband operation although Im not sure. They were very friendly and excited about the upcoming Philly beer Week and I am hoping that 2nd street gets some exposure from that. all in all a nice corner bar with some nice taps and bottle selection albeit a bit small and crowded. I'll stop by here again.

2nd street has become our go to place, very happy to have a solid beer bar within a block of our house. atmosphere is a mixture of rowhome bar, philly beer bar and chill coffee house. it really depends on the day you are there, but this is a spot that can be crowded and cramped or just busy enough to make you feel welcome while letting you relax. You walk into space with the bar left front for the first half and narrow opening enters you to a seating space. Bar space is nice, compact, lots of seating at the bar and high tables. Back room has tables, american dart board and an arcade game or two.

Service is very good for south philly, tenders know the brews for the most part, are willing to let you try a taste and are not annoyed by anyone.

Selection is amazing for South Philly / Pennsport, draft list is different everyday, bottle selection is moderate but expansive.

Food is the only downfall at the brewhouse; tater tots are great, nicely baked, but the sandwiches are mediocre.

value is very good, most drafts are $5 or less, bottles can be pricey if taking out.
