I know I've reviewed this already; I guess I just haven't typed up my handwritten notes yet. Anyway, here's a brief impression for a can nabbed for $1.42 at Trader Joe's.

Clear copper body of average vibrance. Soft off-white head boasts good retention (~8 minutes). Looks standard for an IPA, lacking any standout characteristics or obvious flaws.

AROMA: Fragrant floral hop notes, C-hops, fruity ale yeast esters, pale malt/2-row, a kiss of pine, orange zest/orange peel, and orange sherbert.

Pleasant and inviting. An aroma of average pungency.

TASTE: Matches the aroma for the most part, but it does finish more bitter than expected, emphasizing that pine tree car deodorizer/fake but pungent pine note. Floral, a little oily, citrusy. Hits on orange peel and orange sherbert, hinting towards marmalade like sweetness as well. 2-row/pale malt. I don't taste any overt caramalt or crystal malt (which is good).

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, coating, slightly oily, somewhat refreshing. A bit too thick and hefty on the palate given its merely above average depth of flavour.

OVERALL: The hop profile isn't amazing, but it works well enough, rendering this a pleasant drinkable IPA that I'd happily down more than one can of in a sitting. But it doesn't hold a candle to the best expressions of the oversaturated style, nor can it compete with the better widely distributed examples (e.g. Deschutes, Bells, Bear Republic, Lagunitas, et al.).

A decent go-to Texan IPA in the Austin area for those who can't be bothered to pay the premium for Lone Pint Yellow Rose and/or don't want to put the work in to nab some Pinthouse Pizza Electric Jellyfish.

High C+ (3.25) / ABOVE AVERAGE

A: crystal clear; deep gold in color; 2+ finger off white head that receded to a thin cap; nice rings of lace;

S: coconut and pineapple;

T: more pineapple than coconut up front; from the middle through the finish, coconut is prevalent; moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;

O: well made; interesting take on the style;

this is a plenty decent ipa, but i found it a little generic, and compared to some of the other hoppy beers these guys are making, it really didnt stand out to me as anything special, as much as it scratches the ipa itch just fine. golden honey colored brew with an airy white layer of foam on top, slow to settle and very lively looking. i get a nice oily fresh hop profile, very much in the west coast tradition, carrying a little sweetness from the grain through to a rather bitter finish, obvious pine needles and orange zest at hand, with a softness that i really like, a mineral profile in taste and feel that makes it mellow, and great carbonation to keep it moving along even as it warms a little bit and starts to heavy up. you dont have long in texas this time of year to drink a beer if you want the last half to be even a little cold, and i feel like this one changes temperature more favorably than others in its style, which is a weird consideration but immediately stood out to me here, so many warm half beers last week, oh my goodness! nothing particularly unique about the hops, but the balance is there. i liked their flavor country and peacemaker a little better on the hoppy side, but this is well made, fresh, and widely available.

On tap at the brewery.

Deep golden straw, clear, thick foamy white head. Head settles slowly into thick cap.

Slight tropical fruit aroma, hint of malt sweetness.

Flavor is balanced with resinous hops, touch of sweet tropical fruits, grapefruit bitterness and balancing toffee like malt sweetness.

Moderate carbonation and lighter side of medium body. Smooth and easy drinking.

A nice all around old school flavor IPA. Balanced malt and hops.

Poured from a can dated 12/19/16. The beer pours an amber color with a three finger white head and great glass-coating lacing. The smell is grapefruit, lemon, with subtle pine. The taste is dank, oily resin. The citrus is very light and difficult to find, but there is some lemon underneath. There is a bitter, hoppy lingering aftertaste. The mouthfeel is oily, smooth, and thicker than expected for 6.2% abv. Overall a decent IPA, especially if you like dank, piney beers.
