Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a dark brown color with a small tan colored head of foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strong of a toasted and roasted malt smell mixed with other aromas of caramel and molasses. Along with these smells comes a decent showing of cocoa and a bit of coffee and cola. A little bit of earthy hop and a touch of char are there as well, rounding out the aroma nicely.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly drier roasted and toasted malt flavor that is paired with a bit of coffee. While drier there is some sweetness of a cocoa and caramel flavor mixed with a touch of brown sugar and molasses. As the taste advances the coffee gets slightly more bitter in nature and is joined by some light grainy flavors. A light earthiness and some herb come at the very end, and with a bump in the sweet, one is left with a semi-sweet and roasty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly lighter side with a carbonation level that is lower. For the lower abv. and the dark roasty tastes, the more light body, and lower carbonation are great for keeping it easy drinking, but at the same time not taking away from all the roasty flavors.
Overall – A rather nice drinking dark lager. Well crafted and quite tasty.

12oz can poured into a nucleated Pilsner glass.
Appearance is dark brown with four fingers of beige head. Retention is average leaving a cap.
strength of aroma is low. The aroma has malt, light caramel, a light roasted smell and a light hop aroma.
Strength of taste is somewhat below medium-high. The taste follows the aroma with the addition of light chocolate, light coffee and a long grassy light hop bitterness.
Feel is somewhat above medium in thickness. Carbonation is a little below medium-high. Astringency is low. It's a little creamy and quite dry.
Overall, it's a great beer that I will likely buy each October release.

visually appealing after pour, but head fades quickly. Thin body with mouthfeel similar to a Bud.

12oz canned 9-30-20, opened 10-31-20.
2 finger beige head, very good retention.
Dark brown hue with great clarity. Full, clinging lace.
Light roast, woodsy with faint chocolate and coffee notes.
Detecting a hoppy / grassy aroma under it all.
Coffee with cream, bitter roast malt - toast and nuts.
Again, as in the aroma, a grassy/spicy hop flavor comes on late. Lots of flavor.
Light body, somewhat creamy mouthfeel.
Lingering bitter and roasty finish. Surprising power.
Very Good.

I really liked this beer. Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Clear dark brown color with a good white head and decent lacing. Very nice roasted malt smell and taste. Pumpernickel bread, a little sweetness and pleasant bitterness. Goes great with food!

Poured from the can into a pokal glass. Canned Feb 21st 2017.

Mahogany brown and a tinge of red to the body color. Two finger faint holding head, pinhead sized bubbles in its makeup, with a good amount of pill like lacing. Good small crown on top as it settles, and managing a faint half tall creamy finger on top.

Nice aroma. Faint coffee and toasty malt. Very clean sensing as well, even a touch of hazelnut like sweetness going on. Quite a good inviting aroma for a schwarzbier.

Palate brings the solid goods. Crisp and creamy. Tangy finish with even a little bit of hop bite, but excellent creamy and light milk chocolate mid palate. Roast and even crackling grains in the middle, hints of brown bread toast and a lingering herbal green hop bent that really lingers. Hints of bubbly faint carbonation but not gaseous, making for a playful romp on the tongue.

A very surprising and memorable schwarzbier. Tasty!
