Tried on-tap at the Quarrymans Hotel in Pyrmont. Interestingly, I'd tried the Hughe Dunn Brown before the regular one.

Pours a ruddy, slightly cloudy brown colour, with a fine thin ring of off-white. It looks pretty light and a little bit listless in the glass. Fine carbonation at least and a few minor streaks of lacing. Looks okay.

Nose is rather bland. There's a touch of fatty butter coming through, with just a suggestion of sweetness. A little tartness perhaps tending towards a faint spice like nutmeg. Mostly it's just flat though.

Taste is very empty. Again, there's a hint of buttery slickness to it, some cake batter and a faint thin brown malt character—but very little overall. On the back is a slightly unpleasant lingering caramel, but not true brown malt character. Carbonation is restrained, at least.

Overall, this isn't great, and it's fairly bloating for its 4.5% ABV. It's really very sweet throughout, but leaves you with a sense of emptiness—it really lacks true flavour and definitely lacks complexity. I think it's only on par with the lower tier of brown ales out there.

Pours brown with a large, fading off-white head.
Nose show nuttty malt, soft bready hints and a heap of chocolate.
Similar flavours with some toasty notes too along with fruity yeast-driven characters and a faint metallic hint.
Carbonation is overly high.

Slightly opaque brown colour with a big, foamy, light tan head. Fair head retention.

Rich fruity and malty aroma. Raisins and caramelised malts. Great.

Like the aroma. Richly malty with a big dried fruit note. Really quite nice. Touches of earthiness too.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Suits the beer well.

A stunning beer really. Excellent flavour in a sub-5% beer. Really, really tasty.

Bottle number 029 of 136.

Drank from my Bombardier conic pint glass.

A - Pours a nice clear, dark Amber/Copper colour witha nice Ivory head that slowly reduces to a film.

S - Rather nice figs and sweet caramel malts. Delicate but nice.

T - Nice nutty chesnut type flavour with some burnt toffee that floows into a sweet caramel, before finishing in the classic bitter way.

M - Light to medium body with medium carbonation.

O - Another well thought out brew from Nail Ale. Very true to the style and well worth a shot.

This is brewed especially for WA Beer Week and dedicated to Hugh Dunn, this bottle is number 96 out of 136 and it pours a light burnt copper hue with nice carbnonation that leaves behind a frothy two finger head and some lacing, the smell is roasted nuts, burnt toffee, caramel and citrus,it has a light bodied well carbonated mouthfeel and has tastes of burnt toffee, light caramel, roasted chesnuts and finished with a dry tinge of citrus bitterness and overall for the price its nice but it could have a few tweaks in my mind to take it to the next level but very sessionable netherless.
