Welcome back to my New DelMarVa (+ DC) Beer Sunday (Week 778)! I explained today's impetus in the previous entry (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25696/343273/?ba=woodychandler#review), but this CANtinued brewery horizontal is finishing up with either Key or DuClaw on deck. Long live The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Double Dry-Hopped Double India Pale Ale with Lupulin Powder"; "Never Forgotten"; "Made In DC".

Man, I gotta say, I am totally diggin' where I'm at for today! I CAN hang with a steady diet of hoppy beers. I beCAN by Crack!ing open the vent & CANmencing a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I was heartened by its quick formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with good retention which left a load of sticky lacing in its wake as it slowly fell. Color was a beautiful Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, causing the grumbling Gelt Gang of Croesus, Mammon & Midas to slowly shamble into my kitchen from the living room sofa where they were reCANvering from last night's televised hockey marathon. Hey, toughski s**tski, comrades! as they say in Russia. Bump 'em guys! Nose smelled like the bag of dank that a dude brought to a recent party! Phew. I CANnot partake due to still being on a job search, but I like to do a sniff whenever possible. It reinforces the idea that hops & pot are closely related. This had a rich, grassy, minty, earthy quality that just made me want to get started! Mouthfeel was big, full & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. Nothing was lost in transition from nose to taste. In fact, it was even more intense than the nose had led me to expect. It had a pronounced pine presence with an attendant cool mintiness, a light citrusiness and a definite earthiness, as though it were fresh from the garden. 8=O Great G-D! I may dally with tarts & sours, dip into Stouts & Porters, get scotched on Scotch Ales, curry with Kvass, but this is what really revs my engine! Gimme dem hops! I love the flavors, I dig the bitterness & I feel sustained for a while afterwards, like a junkie feeding his habit. This was scratching that 20+-year itch & quieting the screeching monkey on my back who I hardly notice any more thanks to his CANstant chatter. Jeez-O, man, I CAN't be hopped up all the time, but he doesn't dig the CANcept! Finish was dry & bitter & I was in a CANtemplative, mellow state of mind. Beautiful. YMMV.

16oz can into an IPA glass

Look: Pours a very slightly hazy golden-orange. A soapy white head with decent retention leaves plenty of sticky lacing all over the glass.
Smell: Big hit of citrus on the nose. Mandarin/Orange/Tangerine, Melon, Peach, mango, and pineapple.
Taste: Follows the nose, big citrus, tropical/stone fruit, and melon. Unlike the nose this has a nice bitter note underneath all the fruit, and a dry finish.
Feel: Medium body with good carbonation and small bubbles.
Overall: Great DIPA from 3 Stars. My favorite of theirs, in fact. 8% ABV is hidden well and the balance of juice and hops is super solid.

There is canned on date on the side of the can. I like the label artwork, the font is is nice. The pour is a cloudy light orange. I distinguish lots of floaty sediment in the shaker pint glass. On the aroma I get some hops, an earthy herbal note, celery stalk, slight dank & slight citrus. This beer drinks easier than I expected i'm only some bitterness towards the finish that stings the tongue just a tingle. Cheers! A-

Light copper to gold in color with a half inch of dishwater white on top. Moderate soapy lacing is present. I'm smelling some subdued citrus in the nose. I'm tasting a lot more citrus and tangerine than the nose seemed to suggest. As it warms it seems a bit more vegetal and lightly earthy. It's fairly steady throughout the palate, with a relatively quick finish. The mouth is faintly sticky and dense with a light dryness.

On tap at 3 Stars in D.C.

Pours a clear yellow with fine, soft head.

Smell is slightly tart and juicy with notes of citrus, melon and grass.

Taste is slightly sweet to start, then adds plenty of citrus and some spiciness along with a nice, solid bitterness before a long, slightly dry finish.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a nice and balanced DIPA, well made.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pineapple, mango. Taste is nothing like the aroma. It is of citrus, pine, a bit dank, fairly bitter. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Medium gold with a faint haze and a coupla fingers of head... Double dry hopped with lupulin powder, but no specific hops cited - though whenever I see "stars" or "space" or "galaxy" in the name I think there are Galaxy hops involved... Canned on 9/11/18...

One of those pine and citrus characters, with an undercurrent of citrus fruits, suggestive primarily of grapefruit - kinda dry and pith but with a little sweet juice to it - and an over-current of pine airs - a little dank, a little woody, and leaving a trail of resinous shellac behind... Medium-light weight with a moderate bitterness, lightly sweet, moderately carbonated... There's nothing wrong with this beer, but also nothing that sets it apart from the masses...

This was on tap and poured into a tulip glass. The color is hazy straw with a nice white head. The aroma is of citrus and piney hops. There is a bit of grassy hops that are there as well. The taste is much like that of the aromas. Citrus with a touch of earthiness floats around the palate. The body is a little thin. Even with the haziness there seems to not be a balance of hops to malt (not that people would be looking for that in this style, IMO). I enjoyed this brew.

Another big, impressive pour from 3 Stars, with a wet, white, tight bubbled head atop a mostly transparant goilden body. Nose is grapefruit and mint and mixed vegetables but improves as it warms.

Flavor is piney and herbal hops along with soapy cornbread. Kind of creamy but a little cloying in the texture. The aftertaste has a bit of hop oil and more mint and vegetation. Definitely interesting but a little esoteric for me.
